City of Ueckermünde: Finance Committee plans groundbreaking budget meeting!

The finance committee of the city of Ueckermünde will meet on Monday, November 24th, at 5 p.m. in the community hall of the town hall. An exciting program awaits the city representatives, as there is a lot on the agenda. The main topics are the city's finances and budget planning for 2026. This also includes the budget for the special urban development fund "Living Environment Design Ueckermünde East". Furthermore, fees for the “Uecker-Haff Coast” water and soil association will be discussed and a new investment guideline for municipal financial investments will be discussed. This important meeting is eagerly awaited, as city finances play a central role in local self-government and public services, as bundesfinanzministerium.de explains.

As in previous years, the city of Ueckermünde has also drawn up budget statutes for 2025, which contain important information on planned finances and investments. These statutes regulate budget plans, assessment rates, staff positions and loans for the different financial years. The budget statutes for 2025 were published on June 4th. The special fund for living environment design in Ueckermünde East also received its own statutes on this date, as the city itself informs on its website. Previous statutes from 2024 and 2023 have now lost their validity and will be honored accordingly in the upcoming meeting, reports ueckermuende.de.

Discussions about applications and measures

A look at the previous applications shows that there was not only positive feedback. For example, Meik von Deetzen's request to make parking on the beach free of charge was not pursued further in the Ordnance Committee. The motion to temporarily stop the collection of arrears in broadcasting fees was also removed from the agenda with a narrow majority of 5 votes to 4. The committee did not see itself as responsible for this decision.

These developments are part of the major challenges facing municipalities. According to bundesfinanzministerium.de, cities and municipalities fulfill important tasks that also cover public services, from energy and water supply to the sponsorship of schools and social institutions. The financial basis is a mix of different sources of income, which are often supplemented by allocations from the federal states. All of this underlines how essential solid financial planning is for municipal infrastructure.

The upcoming meeting of the Finance Committee represents an important step in laying the financial foundations for the coming years and ensuring that Ueckermünde remains an attractive place to live. The decisions made there will not only influence the budget for 2026, but also have an impact on the quality of life of citizens who rely on an intact infrastructure.
