Ueckermünde shines: Christmas tree delights children and spectators!

It's finally Christmas in Ueckermünde! On Thursday, November 22nd, 2025, the twelve meter high Christmas tree was ceremoniously set up on the market square and was very well received by spectators young and old. Around 30 children from the DRK daycare center in the city center and numerous visitors came to greet the tree, which weighs around 2.8 tons and is an impressive 30 years old. The lineup, which took place at 10:49 a.m., was accompanied by much applause and cheerful shouts from the children.

But the path to the marketplace was not without challenges. The tree arrived half an hour late because it was initially too wide for heavy goods transport. Using a special net, the width could be reduced to around five meters. The tree comes from the Thomas and Petra Mengel family from Leopoldshagen and was transported to the market square by the Ulferts company from Neubrandenburg using a heavy-duty transporter and crane. Employees of the Ueckermünde building yard actively helped with the installation of the tree.

Transport and its effects

The Christmas tree was transported on Tuesday, November 28th. During this time, residents had to expect temporary traffic disruptions. State road 31 was completely closed between Bellin and Berndshof as well as parts of Ziegeleistrasse for several minutes. It was also necessary to close Hospitalstrasse for a short time, but this was well announced.

Although these measures caused diversions, the great interest in the jewelry of the old town of Ueckermünde kept the anticipation alive. The fairy lights have already been put up on Ueckerstrasse, ready to bathe the city in the festive glow of the Christmas season. However, the city is only festively decorated after the Sunday of the Dead, when the Christmas tree also begins to shine.

Christmas trees and traditions

Across Germany, Christmas trees are an inseparable part of the Advent season. Hundreds of thousands of trees are imported every year, mainly from Denmark. In 2024, Christmas trees were grown on 19,100 hectares in Germany alone, with around 3,310 agricultural businesses involved in production. Statistics show that the love for a beautiful, freshly felled tree is unbroken, and during Advent the city center is filled with visitors making their Christmas preparations.

This will further fuel the anticipation of the festival and the social gathering can soon be in full swing. The first festive events are already in the starting blocks in Ueckermünde, and residents can look forward to a traditionally contemplative Christmas season.
