Irmgard Streeck turns 100: her secret to a long life!
On August 20, 2025, a very special anniversary was celebrated in Anklam: Irmgard Streeck celebrated her 100th birthday. Born on August 20, 1925 in Plau am See, the sprightly senior citizen has had an eventful life marked by memories and stories.
Irmgard moved to Anklam in 1968 with her husband and two daughters, Sabine and Monika. She lived in an apartment on Leipziger Allee until 2018, before health reasons made it necessary to move to a nursing home. There she is lovingly referred to as “Omi” by the nursing staff and staff. This shows once again how much she is valued by those around her.
Family bonds and celebrations
The 100th birthday was celebrated with a warm celebration in the nursing home, which was attended by numerous well-wishers. Irmgard Streeck's family includes not only her two daughters, but also four granddaughters, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, including the youngest, Little Oscar, who was born in 2025. Anklam's mayor Andreas Brüsch didn't miss the opportunity to stop by and offer his congratulations.
Irmgard received a special gift from her granddaughter Tine Schulz: a humorous family portrait that wonderfully captures the family togetherness. And in a classic way, there was a traditional oatmeal cake to celebrate, which has been baked for years based on a recipe from Irmgard's mother. A true family recipe passed down from generation to generation.
A life full of memories
Over the years, Irmgard has kept vacation diaries in which she recorded important travel memories. Her family often visited the Baltic Sea, initially on a motorcycle and later on a Trabant. These shared experiences are still invaluable to the Streecks today.
Irmgard Streeck's longevity is no coincidence. “It also has something to do with genes,” said the celebrator, whose sister lived to an impressive 97 years. In a time when everything is constantly changing, it is this stability in family life and the close connection that made her birthday an occasion full of joy.
The history of the city of Anklam is also an exciting topic today, with address and resident books that go back to 1401. These contemporary historical documents offer a fascinating insight into the development of the city and underline the importance of Anklam in the region.
