Cycling for children with cancer: 200 cyclists on a big fundraising tour!
Around 200 cyclists are on a special tour from Rostock to Eutin and back. This four-day event has a major goal: to support families from difficult circumstances, especially children with cancer. Claus Ruhe Madsen, Economics Minister of Schleswig-Holstein, also joined the ranks of the participants and is thus flying the flag for the important fundraising campaign organized by the Sonnenschein association. How Baltic Sea newspaper reports, the overall goal of the campaign is to collect the proud sum of 100,000 euros.
The first stage takes the cyclists to Grevesmühlen, where they are provided with proper schnitzel and potatoes during their first lunch break. The city of Grevesmühlen itself also contributed to the collection by donating 200 euros. In addition, the company Windprojekt supported the campaign with 4,000 euros. In Neukloster, school children showed great commitment: almost 2,000 euros were collected through various bazaars.
Tour route and highlights
The bike tour takes place in four exciting phases: On the first day you go from Grevesmühlen via Lübeck to Eutin. On the second day, Eutin is reached with a tour through Kiel, Heiligenhafen and Grömitz. The third day takes the cyclists via Bad Segeberg to Neumünster. Finally, on the fourth day, July 19th, the return trip via Travemünde, Boltenhagen, Wismar and Kühlungsborn to Rostock-Warnemünde is on the program. A total of 34 companies from northern Germany are supporters of the Hanseatic Tour.
The initiative “Children, we are not better than the others, we are just different!” couldn't be more appropriate. This motto comes from Eutin, where the event is taking place for the first time this year at Reconnaissance Battalion 6. The support from the Bundeswehr has become an important part of the event over the years.
Background to the fundraising campaign
The main principle is to help families, who often need support in difficult times. The event offers consolation, joy of life and, above all, financial support for medical treatments. The Hansetour Sonnenschein has continued to develop since its founding in 1997. One of the most important events was the 17-day tour in 2003, during which over 4,000 kilometers were covered around the Baltic Sea.
Another project that serves as a role model is the “Bike-to-help” initiative, which was launched by the Bühler family. A fundraising campaign is also organized that is specifically intended for children with cancer and their families. The Bühlers themselves have a personal connection to the topic, as their daughter Lotta successfully battled cancer. The experiences and gratitude they were able to take with them from this time motivate them to help other affected families. They collect donations for the Friends of Children with Cancer e.V. Freiburg.
Conclusion: The commitment of all these people, be they the cyclists, supporters or the initiators behind the projects, is a true inspiration. Every euro counts in the hope of improving the quality of life for affected families and providing light in dark times. Support us wherever you can!
