Zarrentin's monastery market delights with handicrafts and delicacies!

Advent is in full swing and with it the magic of the Christmas markets. Last weekend, the second weekend of Advent, the eagerly awaited “Christmas” monastery market took place in Zarrentin am Schaalsee. Over a thousand visitors from the surrounding area and from far away, such as Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein, flocked together to get in the mood for the upcoming holidays and look for presents. The relaxed atmosphere and family atmosphere of the market are known far beyond the city limits.

“The positive feedback from the stand operators shows that the market is on the right track,” reported Frank Hermann from the Biosphere Schaalsee support association. Many of the approximately 90 exhibitors have been coming to Zarrentin for years and have found a permanent place in the hearts of visitors. The offering ranges from sophisticated handicrafts, which are predominantly handmade, to tempting culinary delicacies. Hungarian langos and Persian samosas are very popular this year - there is something for every taste!

An unforgettable experience for the whole family

However, the market not only offers local specialties, but also a lot of entertainment. Accompanying cultural events take place on the monastery square and in the church, which create an additional atmosphere. Children can look forward to numerous activities, such as carousel rides, pony rides, crafts and even bread baking. And while the little ones are having fun, Santa Claus can't be missed - he makes sure the children's eyes light up.

If you look at the number of visitors, it is a pleasing picture: even at the beginning of the market, the stands were well attended and the places were full. It turns out that people long for these traditions and take the opportunity to experience the anticipation of Christmas together. In addition to the monastery market, there are also other Christmas markets in the region on the program. The celebrations take place on the third weekend of Advent in Boizenburg and Wittenburg, as well as on various dates in Schildfeld, Jasnitz and Lübtheen.

The interaction of the impressive backdrop of the monastery, the church and the Schaalsee makes the Zarrentine Christmas market a unique experience. The combination of handicrafts, delicious food and a colorful supporting program ensures that the market is more than just a place to shop. It is a place where community and joy are at the forefront, which is what continues to attract visitors.

“We have a good knack for selecting exhibitors and designing the market,” continued Hermann. The joy and enthusiasm of the stand operators and visitors make it clear: the monastery market in Zarrentin has established itself as an integral part of the Christmas tradition.
