Rostock calls for: Social Prize 2025 for outstanding volunteer work!
The starting signal for the Social Prize 2025 is given in the Hanseatic and university city of Rostock. This prize is awarded not only to individuals, but also to corporations and associations that have distinguished themselves through special voluntary commitment in the areas of asylum, social and youth work as well as health care. The prize, which is endowed with 3,500 euros, aims to honor human actions and to highlight projects that reduce social emergencies and health risks. Applications are possible until August 15, 2025 in order to make the diversity of civic engagement in Rostock visible, as Rathaus Rostock reports.
But it's not just the social award that offers a platform for committed Rostock residents. The Rostock Commitment Prize will also be awarded this year. This honors outstanding projects from Rostock clubs, associations and organizations. Those honored have the opportunity to be nominated for the prestigious German Engagement Prize, an award that is only given to organizations that have previously been honored locally or at the state level. The application phase for the engagement award runs until June 23, 2025, and the criteria are clear: The projects must have started between June 1, 2024 and May 31, 2025. Those interested can find further information on the website of Engagiert in Rostock.
Important deadlines and prices
The application phase opens in May and ends shortly. The competition process initially involves the submission of projects, followed by a jury phase in which a pre-selection is made. From July 14th, citizens can vote online for the ten best projects. The award ceremony will take place in September 2025 as part of the Week of Civic Engagement and honors the three projects with the most votes. Attractive prize money awaits the three places: 1,500 euros for first place, 1,000 euros for second and 500 euros for third place.
Volunteering in Germany
Volunteering is also an important topic nationwide. The 5th German Volunteer Survey, which is carried out every five years, has identified interesting data on the development of volunteering in Germany. Around 40 percent of the population, around 28.8 million people, did volunteer work in 2019. The proportion of people who are actively involved has increased over the last 20 years, which shows that civic engagement is very popular in both East and West Germany. What is particularly noteworthy is that the engagement rate among 30 to 49 year olds is 44.7 percent. The detailed results of the survey are provided by the Federal Ministry for Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth.
Rostock is therefore a living example of the vitality of voluntary commitment in Germany, and the upcoming awards offer a wonderful opportunity to shine a spotlight on the numerous initiatives and projects that enrich social life. The city invites everyone to submit their own suggestions and projects and thus become part of this important social process.
