Cabrio-Rüpel runs over 13-year-olds on Rügen-serious injuries!
A shocking incident on the island of Rügen causes excitement and horror: A 13-year-old student from Bremen was deliberately approached by a convertible driver on August 14, 2022 in Prora and suffered serious injuries. Witnesses show that the driver headed for the child at a significant speed after he had apparently challenged him with a provocative gesture. Nordsee-Zeitung reports that the boy was thrown several meters through the air during the collision and landed on a green area.
The driver of the convertible, a 47-year-old, committed driver flight after the incident and is now charged by the Stralsund public prosecutor's office for dangerous bodily harm, driver flight and a dangerous intervention in road traffic. The student, who was on a school trip with a group of six other students, was taken to the hospital with a rescue helicopter. Fortunately, his state of health is now stable and the injuries are not life-threatening [RTL] (https://www.rtl.de/news/cabrio-rio-ruepel-faehr-fruegen-abar-kind-13-jaehriger-schwer- ID1773467.html).
Details on the investigation
In the course of the investigation, the police received many information about the fleeting driver. This is described as 20 to 40 years old, wearing a baseball cap as well as long outer clothing and beige pants. The accident vehicle, a gray or silver BMW with an open cover, could have damage to the windscreen and bonnet. The investigating civil servants therefore ask for evidence of witnesses and ask the driver to report.
The incident not only made headlines in the region, but also throws a light on the dangers in road traffic. According to the Statistics of the German Statistical Office, the figures on traffic accidents in Germany have shown that such incidents can have serious consequences and thus also create important conditions for improvements in traffic education and legislation.
For the coming trial in Bergen, further negotiations are already scheduled, the next appointment for June 16. The public remains excited to see how the case will develop and what decisions the Stralsund District Court will make.
