Seans Olympic dream: Maddies brother fights for the restart!

The history of the McCann family is characterized by grief, hope and tireless effort. In the shadow of the missing girl Madeleine "Maddie" McCann, which has been missing for 18 years, the view now focuses on her brother Sean, who wants to make a name for herself in another arena. Sean McCann, now 20 years old, is an emerging swimmer and has set the ambitious goal of participating in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. According to nau.ch has already achieved numerous successes in swimming and has made a name for himself, especially in open water swimming. In May 2024, he won gold over 1.5 kilometers and bronze over five kilometers in a competition in Mallorca.

The circumstances of Maddies disappear on May 3, 2007 in Portuguese Praia da Luz, a long shadow throwing the family. While Sean and his twin sister Amelie slept in the same room, Maddie was kidnapped from the "Ocean Club" apartment. Since then, their parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, have largely withdrawn from the public while looking for their daughter. However, the investigation has so far been unsuccessful, and the German authorities now assume that Maddie was murdered. A new search in Portugal has only recently been initiated to find new information.

The life of the twins

Despite the difficult circumstances of his childhood,

Sean has developed excellently. He studies process engineering at the University of Loughborough and has been training intensively since he was eleventh. With a tight program of nine swimming units and three strength training per week, he is now striving for both the Commonwealth Games 2026 and the 2028 Olympic Games.

The twin sister Amelie McCann is also on the right track. Currently inscribed at the university in Durham, it regularly takes part in terrain runs and triathlons, but rarely shows up in public. The family recently held a memorial event to remember the anniversary of Maddies. Among those present were also Kate and Gerry, who share their grief with the public.

The search for Maddie

Despite all efforts, Maddie's case remains unsolved. The Portuguese police ceased its investigation in 2008, whereupon the British Metropolitan Police initiated its own investigations in 2011. In 2020, German Christian B. was identified as a suspect who lived near the holiday complex in which Maddie disappeared. Various stressful indications were collected against him, but there is still no trace of Maddie himself. Although the McCanns tried to maintain the public interest, the case remains in the floating.

The McCanns not only see themselves confronted with the loss of their daughter, but also influences the life of the twins who have to deal with the constant feeling of missing. In an interview, Kate McCann emphasized how much Maddie's absence the twins shaped, and the family wants nothing more than the return of her daughter. The search for Maddie McCann is in the meantime and hope in the family remains alive.
