Complete closure of the B194: detours and construction sites cause chaos!

The B194 between Loitz and Grimmen remains a challenge for drivers from today, July 16, 2025, until September 5, 2025. For good reason: The road is completely closed due to extensive construction work between Poggendorf and Gülzow-Dorf Northern Courier reported. These measures are necessary because the asphalt has significant cracks, thinning and numerous patches that urgently need to be repaired.

The work on the blacktop requires a complete closure of the route, as the existing width of the route does not allow partial closure for safety reasons. From the intersection with the district road VG8 near Schwinge, the B194 towards the north becomes a dead end. This means that the diversion for through traffic via state roads particularly affects the cities of Demmin and neighboring districts.

Traffic routing and diversions

The extensive diversion is not without its consequences: The route via the L27 leads from the Meyenkrebs roundabout, goes via Wotenick and Nossendorf to Wendisch Baggendorf and ultimately doubles the distance between Loitz and Grimmen to almost 40 kilometers. Many drivers will try to use alternative routes via the VG8 district road in order to shorten the detour. Special traffic control measures have been announced for residents in the construction site and in Gülzow-Dorf so that traffic flows more regulated.

The construction work is being carried out by GP Verkehrswegebau GmbH from Grimmen and costs just under 580,000 euros. This investment, like other road construction projects in the area, is financed by the federal government. This also promotes the preservation of the infrastructure in the region, according to the Stralsund Road Construction Authority, which plans and coordinates these measures street-mv.de notes.

Further construction sites and infrastructure projects

In addition to the B194, there are also construction sites in other parts of the region. The renovation of the Kahlden Bridge in Demmin and the complete renovation of the B110 between Demmin and Jarmen are just a few examples. Particularly worth mentioning is the upcoming full closure of the Peene Bridge, which is planned from August 27th to September 5th.

These extensive projects illustrate the challenges of road construction in Germany. Although sales in road construction have increased in recent years, there was a decline of almost two billion euros in 2023. Nevertheless, road construction remains the most important civil engineering sector with a constant number of over 80,000 employees, according to data from Statista show. Despite the setbacks, investments totaling around 9.8 billion euros are expected to continue to flow into German highways by 2028.

The coming months will show how the construction work will affect traffic and how residents and commuters will deal with the changes. It is clear that these investments are necessary to make our road network future-proof.
