Youth firefighters in chaos: incorrect ratings and disqualifications!
At the beginning of June, the eagerly awaited district elimination of the youth defense forces from the Vorpommern-Greifswald district took place in Ferdinandshof. Here, 15 youth fire brigades competed against each other and presented their skills in a fire-fighting attack without water and a 400-meter obstacle course. But not everything went smoothly: the evaluation of the performances encountered problems that even led to a subsequent recalculation of the points. The Association of District Youth Fire Brigades also recognized this, meaning that the best teams were not chosen on the competition field as planned, but at the negotiating table.
Fortunately, five teams qualified for the national competition in July in Ticino. These are:
| Place | team |
|---|---|
| 1. | Lodmanshagen/Kemnitz I |
| 2. | Torgelow |
| 3. | Lubmin I |
| 4. | Ducherow I |
| 5. | Rubenov |
However, the runner-up from Medow decided not to take part, so the other teams agreed to only take part in the state competition with one team each. Association boss Erfried Firtzlaff praised the constructive exchange and announced that the competition judges would be trained more specifically and that an information event would be organized for youth officials. Unfortunately, the team from Ueckermünde had to be disqualified due to a rule violation.
In addition to the events in Vorpommern-Greifswald, the district competition of the youth fire brigades in the Rostock district was also an important event. On June 22, 2025, around 30 youth fire departments with around 350 participants competed in Bad Doberan to qualify for the state competition in Ticino. There, the young people showed their fighting skills and teamwork in a fire attack with hurdles and a relay race with different stations. The first five places went to the following teams:
| Place | team |
|---|---|
| 1. | Bützow youth fire department |
| 2. | Ziesendorf youth fire department |
| 3. | Nienhagen youth fire department |
| 4. | Güstrow youth fire department |
| 5. | Reddelich youth fire department |
The event was not only an important step towards qualifying for the state competition, but also an opportunity for the many young fire department members to show team spirit and skills. The focus is particularly on exercise and fun; the children's fire brigade for 6 to 9 year olds also took part and was also able to demonstrate their skills.
As the German youth fire brigade reports, it is one of the highlights of the season when the best teams from all over Germany compete in the national competitions, which alternate annually with the event highlights at both the federal and state levels. The young people not only prepare for the competition, but also strengthen the community within the fire service family.
This month, the fire brigade youth in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania not only celebrated competitive successes with their competitions, but also proved that teamwork and comradely support have top priority - an experience that the young firefighters will certainly remember for a long time.
