Chess fever in Torgelow: Chessy tour delights young and old!

In Torgelow, where chess is always very popular, you could experience a colorful hustle and bustle on July 24th, 2025, when the Chessy Tour of the German Chess Youth made a stop. After successful stops in Rostock and Stralsund, the mascot Chessy brought a breath of fresh air into the chess scene and provided an appealing program that appealed to both young and old chess fans. The event was supported by SAV Torgelow-Drögeheide 90, which presented a diverse range of chess.

The activities included not only traditional chess, but also original alternatives such as Viking chess and large-scale chess. As part of the tour, a tournament with teams of two took place, in which ten couples took part. These were formed into two groups by lottery. The tournament was tightly organized, with a thinking time of ten minutes per player - which kept the tension high!

Exciting competitions and young talents

Competitive spirit was in the air, and at the end of the day Andrii Mykhlyk and Julius Wrage were able to claim the gold medal as they finished ahead of the tied team of Anja Wilke and Andreas Kilp due to a better second ranking. Such successes not only motivate those involved, but also strengthen the community spirit among the chess players.

A very special highlight was the impressive simultaneous game by 15-year-old Jakob Herrmann, who is considered the youngest FIDE master from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. He played brilliantly on twelve boards and didn't let a single one of his opponents score. He managed to draw against five teammates - a truly respectable performance!

Chess as part of the community

The Chessy Tour, which runs through various regions of Germany from July 11th to 20th, 2025, not only aims to promote the sport of chess, but also to strengthen the community. As the German Chess Youth informed, the tour highlights are planned in various cities such as Berlin, Brandenburg and Saxony-Anhalt. The participating clubs were also able to apply until June 16, 2025 for events that do not incur any costs as they are financed by the German Chess Youth.

The tour makes the game of chess more accessible - events take place in schools, clubhouses or even at city festivals. Through close cooperation with clubs and chess groups, it is a collaborative approach to awaken and promote enthusiasm for the game of chess.

Overall, the Chessy tour impressively shows how chess brings people together. The SAV Torgelow-Drögeheide 90 makes a fantastic contribution to this. A big thank you to everyone involved – the chess community in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has once again shown its best side! All chess enthusiasts will have the opportunity to take part in similar events and exchange ideas with like-minded people in the near future.
