Räucherkate on the Elbe cycle path: enjoyment for locals and tourists!

There is reason to be happy in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: The newly opened Räucherkate in Stiepelse offers a welcome addition to cycling and hiking tourists exploring the Elbe cycle path. While many village pubs in rural areas are disappearing, the Räucherkate is a ray of hope that the region truly deserves. Raphael Morbitzer, a native of Karlsruhe, and his wife Alexandra, who grew up in Boizenburg, have revived the cozy inn. The motivation for this was not least the effort to regularly travel to Hamburg to look for work elsewhere.

The Räucherkate offers a varied menu, from tarte flambée and schnitzel to freshly smoked fish. Their motto “Quality at a low price” appeals to both locals and tourists. “We want to give something back to the region,” explains Morbitzer. “The Räucherkate should become a meeting place for the villagers.” This social responsibility is particularly important to the couple as they have lived in Sumte, a neighboring town, for the past ten years.

Visitors welcome!

An additional incentive for the catering industry is the high frequency of cyclists and hikers who pass the Räucherkate. But Morbitzer also has a clear plan for locals: "We want people to go out to eat more often again. This not only promotes their well-being, but also helps our economy." To achieve this goal, Räucherkate will aim to become a popular spot for the local community.

Opening hours depend on demand: Monday to Wednesday can be opened upon request, while fresh dishes are offered on Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on weekends until 9:00 p.m. In the long term, Morbitzer also plans to offer apprenticeships to bring a breath of fresh air to the catering industry and train young people in the region.

A look beyond the borders

Back in Germany, the constant work of people like the Morbitzers in Stiepelse could help strengthen local communities and, among other things, serve as an example for other regions. The locals are all the more excited about the culinary offerings that await them in the Räucherkate.

The future looks bright not only for the Räucherkate, but also for everyone who enjoys hearty food and a cozy atmosphere!

Northern Courier reports that the Räucherkate in Stiepelse is a necessary counterpoint to the wave of restaurant closures in rural regions.
