Lawn for the Peenefest: Demmins Green Oasis shines again soon!
Schillerstraße 1, 17109 Demmin, Deutschland - When summer is entering in Demmin, the preparations for the annual Peenefest are also available in the city. At the Zille-Eck, on Schillerstraße corner Treptower Straße, the employees of the Demminer Wohnungsbau- und Verwaltungsgesellschaft mbH (woba) bring. This relaxation was created in 2014 after the demolition of the former Zille House, which was once the home of Margarete Köhler-Zille, the daughter of the well-known Berlin artist Heinrich Zille.
The Wobau not only justified the area, but also equipped with a bust of Heinrich Zille, an information board and cozy benches. Here the audience of the festival can relax and enjoy the atmosphere. To ensure that this is still possible, Wobau regularly maintains the plantings that have now been taken over by the Independent Voter Community (UWG).
Green care in focus
The area is mowed between twelve and fifteen times a year, depending on the moods of the weather. But not only the lawns deserve attention. The adjacent sidewalks are also cleaned and the marginal limits are brought into shape. Various devices are used in this care: lawn tractors, lawnmowers and trimmers are constantly in use. The trees and flowers have to be irrigated in the dryness, while the clippings are disposed of properly.
Unfortunately there are also challenges. The Wobau employees repeatedly complain that dog owners do not supervise their four -legged friends and leave their legacies behind the lawns. A nostalgic trash is often used as an improvised seating and has already got some quirks.
A look at the story
Not only the Greens, but also historical roots fascinate in Demmin. The city looks back on a rich past that is captured in a digital museum. The Demminer Heimatgeschichte shows numerous documents that go back to 1519. Here you can find the city's pledge book or a lust of 1693.
The cultural and historical identity of Demmin is also shaped by outstanding personalities who are recognized in an article on the website of the Orthroniken . The remarkable names include lawyers, architects, artists and scientists who have contributed to the importance of the city in their own way. A highlight is the famous draftsman Heinrich Zille, whose works can also be admired on the green area at the Zille-Eck.
The Peenefest not only mixes the joy of celebrating with love for nature, but also the appreciation for Demmin's moving history. A festival that brings the citizens together and keeps the roots of the city alive!
