Penzlin celebrates inauguration: New athlete home for PSV opened!
A beautiful Friday afternoon in Penzlin became a special occasion on July 5, 2025 when the new sports home of the Penzlin Sports Association (PSV) was inaugurated. At a location that is a second home for many athletes - the artificial turf opposite the bathing area - the new building marks an important step in club history.
The construction period was just more than a year, and the project cost around 1.65 million euros. Thanks to a clever financing strategy, the PSV was able to cover 80 percent of the costs through funding. Mayor Sven Flechner emphasized the need to support this project and thanked everyone involved for their commitment. Of the urban funds, 241,000 euros flowed into construction.

In front of the new athlete home, the changing rooms and sanitary facilities were still 500 meters away at the lawn. The new, modern facilities now offer four disabled -friendly changing rooms, showers, toilets, a referee room and a club room. An external guest toilet was also built to increase the comfort for all club members and guests.
Interestingly, only one Dixi toilet was present before the big renovation. The joy of the new opportunities is all the greater. Most sporting activities of the association take place on the artificial turf pitch, which means that the new institutions are particularly important for the entire sports community.celebrations and future plans
On the occasion of the inauguration, a family festival took place on the artificial turf pitch, which both the members and the citizens of Penzlin spoke. The PSV, which plays in the association league, now not only offers football, but has also established a women's team and is actively involved in handball, senior sports and darts. With around 400 members, the club is well positioned and looks optimistically into the future.
In order to further increase the attractiveness, the association plans to roof the spectator that will offer space for around 200 spectators. This is another step to make Penzlin a center of sports in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
The challenges of sports field promotion
But the way to a modern athlete home was not always easy. Application for funding for an artificial turf pitch poses many clubs for challenges. Important questions such as the type of available funding and the requirements are crucial. Talks with the State Sports Association, Kreissportbund and local decision -makers are important for such a project. Crowdfunding can also be a way to generate additional means and increase equity. The community is required here to prove a good knack in the project realization.
The local directive for the "Refurbishment of municipal institutions in the areas of sports, youth and culture" has been offering funding for sports facilities since 2015. Nevertheless, this guideline covers only a small part of the necessary renovations in the sports area. It is therefore all the more gratifying that the PSV has overcome these hurdles and can now train in a modern environment.
The success of the Penzlin sports club is an example of how important the support of sports facilities in the region is. It remains to be seen what the future has for PSV, but the foundation is laid - for sporting successes and a lively community.
