Quality of life in Schwaan: Citizen survey shows need for improvement!

The Rostock district is currently working hard on a survey that will shed more light on the quality of life in the region. The Nordkurier reports that over 1,160 citizens have already given their opinions on 15 different topics, ranging from the cleanliness of the streets to leisure activities. Special areas such as catering, childcare and safety are also the focus of the assessment.

In idyllic Schwaan in particular, the quality of life was rated 6.27 out of 10 points. This suggests that citizens are satisfied with many aspects, but there is also clearly room for improvement. There is particular dissatisfaction in the gastronomic area, which the people of Schwaan only give 4.48 points. The scores of around 4.5 also show that there is a need for improvement in the categories of housing supply, rental prices and traffic situation.

Diverse survey topics

The survey topics are broad. As the Nordkurier further informs, this includes not only everyday things, such as the quality of cycle paths or medical care, but also how citizens experience the range of sports clubs and family friendliness in their city. The most positive aspects are the cleanliness and the retail offering, which are well received by the residents.

At the same time, the city of Rostock is conducting another extensive citizen survey in which 10,000 randomly selected Rostock mail received. This survey is about quality of life, public services and social issues. Around 30 questions about schools, parks and safety aspects are asked here. Registration to participate is voluntary and anyone with their main residence in Rostock who is over 18 years old can take part even without a written invitation. This survey could also provide valuable insights for Schwaan and other trades that can still improve.

Experiences from other cities

To underline the importance of these surveys, the working group of municipal statistical offices carried out the seventh coordinated survey on the quality of life in German cities last year. Cities such as Berlin, Hamburg and Munich have collected numerous feedback from the population, which is used for comparative analyses. This approach shows how important citizens' opinions are for the development of cities and lays the foundation for future improvements.

The results of these comprehensive surveys are published on the Rostock city administration websites and on various statistical platforms so that anyone interested can view the collected data. This creates a transparent exchange that can provide incentives for change.

If you would also like to take part in the survey, take a look at the Nordkurier or Rostock city administration websites. Your opinion counts and can help take Schwaan and Rostock to a new level!
