Christmas magic in Greifswald: Experience the best markets on the weekend!
The run-up to Christmas in 2025 will be really festive in Greifswald. The local Christmas market opened its doors on November 27th and remains a popular destination for city residents and visitors until December 21st. The decorated wooden stalls and the cozy ambience on the historic market square and at the fish market are particularly popular. Here you can enjoy all sorts of delicacies, warm up with mulled wine and, above all, soak up the contemplative atmosphere. News.de reports that this year there are 35 exhibitors offering their handmade goods.
But the Greifswald Christmas market has a lot more to offer: a glittering 16 meter high Christmas tree, a Christmas pyramid and a historic carousel enchant young and old. If you would like to combine a look at the Christmas season with a special experience, you will find the right offer in the fairytale forest and the Ferris wheel. In the evening the lights sparkle and you can experience a contemplative program in the Advent Church, which has been part of the market for 13 years. This is run by the Greifswald Chapel Association. V. and is also a place to have conversations with church volunteers.
Special highlights and attractions
On the individual days, the offer is further enriched by atmospheric activities. For St. Nicholas Day on December 6th there are small gifts for the younger market visitors. A contemplative program takes place every day from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., accompanied by an exhibition showing angels as symbols of protection. Visitors can also leave their wishes, prayers and requests at the grief box.
Under the motto “Christmas begins in the heart” the people of Greifswald and the city’s guests are awaited. The Christmas market offers the perfect opportunity to end 2025 on a Christmas note while celebrating culinary delights and the art of giving. A visit is also worth it because of the cozy club hut at the fish market, in which various local clubs and their products are presented. This hut is open daily from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and even from 12:00 p.m. on weekends.
