Melons from Barth: A sweet fresh start after 50 years of tomato tradition!
In the tranquil city of Barth, which is located in the district of Vorpommern-Rügen, there are exciting news from the vegetable world. Marcel Schulz and his committed team from the Hahn Gesatriebau GmbH are starting new ways and growing melons for the first time. The special thing about it? Barth has been known for its tasty tomatoes for over 50 years.
This year, nature lovers have set around 350 melon plants. The anticipation for the first harvest is growing, because the melons will be ready for harvest in the next few days. A look at the shell reveals whether the fruits are ready: they must shine and have a pronounced yellow place. A sign that many hours of sunshine were not used for nothing.
water is the a and o
The melons require about 1,000 liters of water every day and some liquid nutrients before they are ready to enjoy. Compared to the traditional Barther tomatoes, however, they are less care -intensive - an advantage that many farmers appreciate. The focus is currently on tomatoes and the sale in the region as well as throughout Germany. Customers appreciate the taste of the tomatoes, which is reminiscent of fresh garden fruits.
The first harvested melons that really see the light of day will be available in Barth. The fact that Barth melons will soon be on the shelves could not only enrich the taste of the landscape, but also expand the vegetable offer on site. Here in Barthe there is a lot of fresh fruit in the air and the anticipation is great!
