Breathe for families: Free vacation for low -income households!

Binz, Deutschland - Summer time is the opportunity for many families to experience new adventures together. But the dream of a vacation often remains unfulfilled for low -income and large families. In order to counteract this, Family Minister Katharina Binz presented the family holiday summer campaign in the picturesque youth hostel in the Grafenschloss in Diez on July 10, 2025. This campaign, which has existed for 22 years, has a clear goal: to enable families who cannot afford a vacation. According to the minister, it is of great importance to strengthen the cohesion within the families so that they can grow with each other through shared experiences.

This year, the family holiday summer campaign is supported by a joint project that is supported by the Rhineland-Palatinate Family Ministry together with youth hostels, family ferry sites as well as the league of the Free Welfare Care Rhineland-Palatinate and the Lotto Foundation Rhineland-Palatinate. A total of 605,000 euros are available this year to enable families for a week's vacation. It is particularly important that the participants receive 300 children and adults free accommodation, meals and a varied program this year. After all, the Family Ministry provided around 17,000 euros in the past year alone, which underlines the relevance of the project.

a vacation for everyone

The campaign is specifically aimed at families with at least three children and single parents. The participating families are selected from welfare associations that they know from their social work. The need is crucial, since many of these families have not been able to experience a vacation together for a long time. The youth hostels and family ferry sites are also shown in solidarity by foregoing the country's grants and providing free food and logis to take the financial burden from the families.

But what exactly does the families expect during their stay? In addition to accommodation, numerous activities are on the program. Offers in the family ferry sites are varied and range from experience education to creative workshops to sporting events. The parents are not neglected either, because they can attend seminars on topics such as education, media use and health. These projects not only promote contact within the families, but also bring incentives for positive further training, which often also has a "imitation of images for home".

strengthening the cohesion

A central point of view of family recreation offers is the strengthening of the cohesion of families through shared experiences. The Federal Working Group Family Holung (BAG FE) has set itself the goal of supporting families in their everyday life. The more than 80 connected family ferry in Germany not only offer holiday offers, but also numerous programs that aim to strengthen the educational strength in families and to enable them for relaxation and growth. There is a particular focus on families with low incomes, children's -rich households and single parents.

Overall, the family holiday summer campaign makes a significant contribution to the social infrastructure in Germany. Thanks to the financial support and the lovingly organized programs, many families give many families the opportunity to spend carefree times together and gain experience that they strengthen together. This not only promotes the relaxing aspect of vacation, but also the family bond in an everyday world that often seems turbulent.
