Violent confrontation in front of a supermarket: police on a large scale!
In Grimmen, a small town in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, a tumultuous incident occurred in front of a supermarket on Friedrichstrasse on the evening of October 27, 2025. At around 10:15 p.m., police were called to a fight that appeared to involve a group of men. When officers arrived, they found several people injured. Interestingly, however, no one wanted to talk about the exact circumstances of the altercation. Only a 22-year-old filed a summons and reported that he had been attacked by two men, aged 22 and 23, and had suffered head injuries as a result.
Another point of contention was the person of a 37-year-old who threatened the injured man and also insulted the police officers. The circumstances were particularly explosive as everyone involved was under the influence of alcohol, which made the situation even more heated. Five patrol cars arrived to support the investigation, and the criminal police have now initiated investigations into grievous bodily harm against the two attackers as well as threats and insults against the 37-year-old. The Bild reports on the tense nature of the situation.
Another incident in the supermarket parking lot
Two years earlier, on October 28, 2024, a similar incident occurred in the parking lot of the same supermarket. At that time, a dispute involving several people was reported to the police. A 48-year-old verbally and physically attacked a 36-year-old, with a 38-year-old trying to intervene and also being hit. What's exciting is that the 38-year-old had a breath alcohol level of 2.29 per mille, while the 36-year-old with a level of 2.42 per mille left the place on his bike, despite his obvious drunkenness. The 48-year-old was bleeding heavily from his nose but was unable to explain to police the cause of his injuries. Here too, criminal proceedings were initiated for simple bodily harm and insult. The report from press portal shows how dangerous such situations can be.
Alcohol consumption in Germany
These incidents highlight a larger societal problem: alcohol. According to the Federal Ministry of Health, around 8.6 million people between the ages of 18 and 64 consumed risky amounts of alcohol in 2024. About 9.5 million experienced at least one episode of binge drinking. This shows how widespread the problem is and how important it is to take action against these social norms. Experts point out that there is no risk-free consumption of alcohol and that the average consumption per capita in Germany is 10.6 liters of pure alcohol annually.
The economic costs caused by alcohol consumption amount to around 57 billion euros per year, which underlines the importance of preventive measures. In a society that often has an uncritical attitude towards alcohol, it is crucial to raise awareness of the dangers and make people aware of the serious long-term consequences. In the future, incidents like the one in Grimmen could be a wake-up call to highlight the urgent need for action among those affected and society as a whole.
