Seals save Polish crew: Sturm ensures dramatic location in front of Rügen!
Glowe, Deutschland - An exciting incident occurred yesterday evening off the north coast of Rügen when a 16 -meter long Polish two -master came into distress. At 6:58 p.m., the Lake emergency control center in Bremen received an urgent message about the damaged ship. The crew fought with numerous difficulties with a strong wind of up to eight Beaufort, gusts of up to 74 km/h and a wave height of over two meters, as water was spilled on the boat again and again, which the crew could no longer pump up. The cutter's machine was canceled, which made the situation even more difficult, so that the men and women tried to reach the almost two nautical miles to Rügen under sailing, but without success. The police became aware of the precarious situation and carried out various operational measures.
The crew consisted of eight people, among them several children and a medically needy crew member. Their contact to the outside world was severely restricted because the mobile phone connection broke off again and again. It was unclear why the crew was at sea despite the storm announcement. Thanks to the rapid alarm, the German Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecker (DGZRS) was able to quickly intervene. Two rescue units, the sea rescue boat Kurt Hoffmann and the sea rescue cruiser Harro Koebke, were immediately sent to the accident. They quickly went on a course on the damaged ship, with other ships, including a research ship of the Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea research, started to help.
rescue under the most difficult conditions
around 8:15 p.m. there was an unexpected moment of happiness. The research ship "Elisabeth Mann Borgesee" viewed the sailing cutter and initiated the rescue operation. The Harro Koebke sea rescue cruiser reached the accident and went alongside the daughter boat Notarius. In the meantime, the “Arkona” ship offered the two -master wind protection, an important advantage in these rough conditions.
The experienced sea rescuers were able to get the water from the sailing cutter and helped a young man who was hypothermic and seasick. These rescue campaigns testify to the excellent training and the tireless use of the DGZRs. The supplied patient was finally brought to Glowe, where an ambulance was already waiting in the harbor.
a safe end
After these intensely experienced hours, which represented a challenge for everyone involved, the accident was finally able to moor at 1:30 p.m. in the port of Glowe. The Harro Koebke accompanied the ship on the last piece of its path. It is a calming feeling to know that the DGZRS helpers are always there when people get into need. This episode reminds us of how important it is to be careful and always respect the forces of nature. Your commitment and professionalism may have saved some lives that night. With this in mind you can only say: well done, sea rescuer!
