Modernization of the railway: Lübeck and Bad Kleine Strengthen Transport Network!

What an important step for mobility in Schleswig-Holstein and West Mecklenburg! The expansion of the railway line between Lübeck and Bad Kleinen officially started on Friday. This approximately 60 -kilometer section is not only modernized, but also electrified in order to significantly improve the connection according to Schwerin. Deutsche Bahn awaits shorter travel times and a more stable timetable from these measures. In the future it will be possible to drive from Lübeck directly to Schwerin - and without a change!

The original plan provided for a continuous two -track expansion from Lübeck via Rostock to Stralsund to enable speeds of up to 160 km/h. Unfortunately, this project was temporarily deleted from the needs plan because the federal government no longer saw the need. Nevertheless, the Schleswig-Holstein Minister of Economic Affairs Wolfgang Blank emphasized the importance of expansion. He emphasizes that these measures not only make local transport shorter and more attractive, but also strengthen freight traffic.

Details for the expansion

The construction work, which is expected to be completed by 2028, include the construction of a connection curve at Gallenin. This should make the switch to Bad Klein superfluous and thus relieve the travelers. Particularly interested circles, such as the Chamber of Commerce and Industry to Schwerin, support the expansion, but also require a continuous two-track expansion for long-distance traffic connections. IHK President Matthias Belke pointed out that a clear commitment from DB long-distance traffic was necessary to strengthen the connection between Berlin and Schwerin.

There are additional plans to link the expansion to the planned Fehmarn Belt crossing, which is due to go into operation in 2029. This step is intended to strengthen the Hamburg metropolitan region and create additional traffic connections.

construction interruptions and outlook

It is also interesting that the construction work will rest during the general renovation of the Hamburg - Berlin route from August 2025 to April 2026. The combination of these extensive construction work could have far -reaching positive effects on the traffic situation in the region and shows how important rail traffic is for future mobility in Germany

With the project, not only the connection from Lübeck to Schwerin is improved, but it could also act as a pioneer for the future development of traffic in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The electrification of railway lines is a crucial point for modernizing the infrastructure in Germany. The history of electrification has also recorded numerous progress in our country since 1994, and it remains exciting how these developments will develop.

The waiting time for the travelers will certainly be exciting until the completion, but the anticipation for faster connections and improved mobility is great - and that's what counts!
