Over 1300 Greifswald students enthusiastic about Kinderuni 2025!

The children's and youth university took place at the University of Greifswald over the weekend from June 11th to 12th, 2025, a highlight of fuel enthusiasts from the region. Over 1300 students in classes 1 to 10 took part in this event, which quickly developed into a crowd puller. "The lectures and tours were fully booked," says Julia Lammertz from university communication. It is always happy to see how much interest the young people show in knowledge.

A variety of topics for young audience

The children's and youth university offers a colorful program. From exciting projects to the "griffin in the Middle Ages" to current challenges on social media such as WhatsApp and Tikok - there was something for everyone. Another highlight was the topic of the effects of bogs, volcanoes and predators on the climate. But not only that, but also special voice offers in Low German and Finnish, showed that the organizers think creatively and inclusive. "It is important to us to prepare complex topics in a child -friendly manner," said Lammertz.

The tours were also a complete success. In the botanical garden and zoological institute, the pupils had the opportunity to learn more about regional crops and animals, while they were given exciting insights into pediatric surgery in university medicine. Such offers promote interest in natural sciences and medicine at a young age and make a big difference in training young people.

target group and future plans

The children's and youth university is aimed at children and adolescents from primary school to high school and is a project at the University of Greifswald. The series of events attracts the young researchers for at least two days. According to the information, there could have been a similar initiative in the past; In 2017 and 2018, children took part in the medical topics as part of a teddy bear hospital. These lectures lasted 45 minutes and explained complex topics such as heart and lungs in simple words. Such medical topics will also be taken into account in the future in order to bring young people to the understanding of health.

Outlook on 2026

The next children's and youth university is already planned for May 2026. If you have become curious and want to get more information about the program, you can contact university communication on +49 3834 420 1150 or drop in directly at Domstraße 11 in Greifswald.

The entire event shows how important it is to promote education at an early age. A well-thought-out media education, as implemented in projects as part of the “Focus Media Education” program with the support of specialists in child and youth welfare, is essential. Observation is taken to support young people in their development into media -competent personalities, whereby the cooperation with institutions such as Wetek gGmbH and BITS 21 supervisors are offered in the social field. These measures are not only beneficial, they also bring a breath of fresh air to the educational landscape.

Overall, it can be said: The children's and youth university not only conveyed knowledge, but also aroused curiosity. It becomes apparent here that interest in education will continue to be very popular in the future. At home, a good knack should be made when selecting the right educational institutions and programs for the offspring.
