Science on the marketplace: focus on antibiotic resistance!

July 15, 2025 is closer and an exciting event with him that will take place on the marketplace in Pasewalk. The event entitled "Science - and I?!" Would like to address the general public and invite you to talk to researchers from the region. The participants have the opportunity to find out about explosive topics that affect both daily life and the environment.

A central theme of the event is the role of water in the Greifswald Bodden in the context of antibiotic resistance. Dealing with such resistance is of growing importance because they can have a negative impact on the health of people. The "One Health" concept plays an important role here because it combines the health of people, animals and the environment. In Germany there are extensive data on antibiotic resistance (AMR) and multi-resistant pathogens (MRE) from different sectors, including human and veterinary medicine as well as environmental examinations, but the different survey standards make it difficult to compare this data.

diverse topics and exciting insights

The event will cover a wide range of topics that are of interest to many. These include:

  • Information from soil samples about climate and agriculture
  • microbes on fields and in the home garden
  • Receive Pomeranian cultural heritage
  • Protection suits for animal disease researchers
  • meaning of Low German

These topics are aimed not only at scientists, but also to interested citizens who want to learn more about the challenges in their everyday life. In particular, the discussion about antibiotic resistance has gained in explosive - successes have been recorded in recent years by reducing antibiotic use in human medicine. Nevertheless, the decline in multi -resistant pathogens, such as MRSA, is not yet nationwide and remains a controversial topic that is also discussed in Pasewalk.

The organizers and contact information

The organization of this event is in the hands of several important institutions, including the German Research Foundation (DFG), the University Rectors Conference (HRK) and the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences (BBAW). The Union of the German Academies of Sciences (Academy Union) and Science in Dialogue (WID) are also significantly involved in planning.

For all those who want more information, the colleagues from the University of Greifswald are available. You can reach university communication at the following address:

  • Domstrasse 11, 17489 Greifswald
  • Telephone: +49 3834 420 1150
  • Email: Hochschulkommunikation@uni-greifswald.de

Take this opportunity to learn more about the interfaces between science and everyday life and to find out about important topics such as antibiotic resistance and its effects. Because here it becomes clear: science affects all of us!

The event not only makes a contribution to clarifying the topics mentioned, but also stimulates thinking. The future of health depends on our use of antibiotics and frequent resistance - a responsibility that we bear together.
