Usedom welcomes new theme park: Hossoland opens!

What’s new on Usedom? The long-awaited amusement park “Hossoland”, which is only about an hour from the German-Polish border, opens on Friday. This new hotspot will attract holidaymakers on the Polish Baltic Sea as well as residents of the Szczecin metropolitan region and offers a variety of themed worlds. The opening was originally scheduled for last year, but now the time has finally come for the first guests to be able to enjoy the attractions Baltic Sea newspaper reported.

The theme park will also play an important role in the region, especially during the season. With a wide range of attractions, Hossoland is intended to boost visitor numbers and help stimulate the economy of the surrounding towns.

Current developments in the region

Meanwhile, there is legal turmoil in the region. A 69-year-old from Usedom is facing charges of negligent homicide and bodily harm before the Greifswald district court. This case concerns a tragic traffic accident that occurred on October 11, 2024, in which a father died while three other passengers were injured. A date for the hearing has not yet been set, which is further stirring things up in the community.

In order to improve mobility, passenger traffic on the railway line between Greifswald and Lubmin was finally reintroduced on MV Day after 25 years. Experts see this as a test for a possible permanent reactivation, which is well received: the city, state and federal government agree that a continued offer is desired, but preparations will still take around ten years.

A new shopping experience in Heringsdorf

There are also new shopping opportunities for locals and holidaymakers. The new Aldi store opened in Heringsdorf on Thursday, replacing the old location after a year and a half of construction. This opening is another step in improving the infrastructure and commercial offerings in the region, especially during the holiday season.

In addition to the opening of the new market, Heringsdorf is planning a three-day event for November 2026 that will spice up the off-season with XXL fireworks and other attractions. The estimated cost of these celebrations is around 80,000 euros, but a decision on funding is still pending.

What about the commitment in the region? Voting for the title of firefighter hero in the region ends today. The candidates currently on the winner's podium are:

• Anne Berner (Freiwillige Feuerwehr Kröslin) – 27,4%
• Steffen Kihslat (Berufsfeuerwehr Greifswald) – 13,8%
• Robert Wilke (Freiwillige Feuerwehr Benz) – 13,7%
