Ueckermünde in a running frenzy: Christmas run celebrates its 25th anniversary!

It's starting soon! On Saturday, November 29, 2025, Ueckermünde will be the venue for the popular Christmas run for the 25th time, which is considered a highlight of the city to the delight of all sports-loving citizens and visitors. Initiated by the athletics section of SV Unit Ueckermünde, the event attracts numerous participants and spectators every year.

Frank Greiner-Mai, the organizer and contact person for the event, is also expecting a great field of runners this year who will take on the challenge of the various distances. The Christmas run is not only the finale of the 2025 Uecker Randow Running Cup series, but also a festive gathering for all ages. The youngest participants up to age group 8 are allowed to cover 600 meters, while older athletes can choose between 5 and 9.4 kilometers. Nordic walkers will also get their money's worth with a 5-kilometer route that leads through the old town and along the Uecker promenade.

Event details

The starting signal will be fired at 10 a.m. near the sports hall on Goethestrasse. For the younger runners, the competitions start at 10:00 a.m., followed by the main race at 11:00 a.m. There are a few challenges to overcome this year: a construction site on Kastanienallee and a changed route on the beach due to a roundabout construction. These aspects could add extra excitement!

The best of the Uecker-Randow cross-country running series will also be chosen as part of the event. This promises an additional incentive for the participants to deliver their best performances. Last year, with 145 participants, the run was the most attended event in years, which only increases the anticipation for this year's competitions.

Traffic disruptions and registration

Of course, the event also comes with some restrictions. Between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., road traffic in the area of Bollwerk, Goethestrasse and Kastanienallee must expect disruptions. For those who decide at short notice, registration is possible until 9:30 a.m. on the day of the event, and the participation fees are more than fair at 2 euros for children and 5 euros for adults. Drinks and snacks are provided at the finish area so that runners can get some rest after the effort.

Old and young athletes, spectators and all those who would like to enjoy the team spirit and the festive atmosphere are warmly invited to join this event and experience an unforgettable day in Ueckermünde. More information can be found on the organizer's website at sv-unit-ueckermuende.eu or in the report from Northern Courier as well as on europe.run.
