Alarm on the interference channel: Dangerous caterpillars threaten strollers!

In the idyllic nature between Banzkow and the Gaartzer Brücke, an unpleasant surprise has crept in. Mario Zimmermann from Sukow, who visits the area with his dog almost every day, has made alarming discoveries in the past few weeks. In this area, which is popular with walkers, the caterpillars of the oak processionary spinner have nestled, which are a serious health risk for humans and animals. The oak processionary moth is a domestic butterfly species, the caterpillars of which develop dangerous brain hair with nessel poison in the third larvae stage, which can cause numerous skin and respiratory diseases, as the Federal Environment Agency explains.

Mario Zimmermann turned to the CRIVITZ regulatory office to point out the dangers. Unfortunately, he only received the advice to contact the district of Ludwigslust-Parchim. Monitoring was carried out there, which excluded an above -average infestation, but determined selective strong people. "I would find it important if there were warning signs in the area to inform other walkers," says Zimmermann concerned about the situation.

The dangers of the oak processionary spinner

The caterpillars of the oak processionary moth can lead to serious health problems when contacted. Symptoms include itching, reddening of the skin and respiratory tract irritation, which can occur via so -called caterpillar matitis in the form of squaddling and blisters on the skin. Also allergic reactions such as hives are possible, which can already occur within minutes, as reports the AOK-Magazin. In breathing the fine hen hair, the upper respiratory tract can irritate and even lead to shortness of breath in preloaded people.

Although the district was informed in the first place, the responsibility for the oaks along the stubwater road at the waterway and shipping office is. This has promised to control the area and to notify the responsible regulatory authorities if the infestation is determined. It is also planned to set up corresponding warning signs. "There is a real need for action," notes Zimmermann and adds that it would also be important to inform the population about the potential dangers in good time.

What can those affected do?

If you are traveling in an area affected by oak procession spinners, you should be particularly careful. The white, fine feretops of the caterpillars can stick to clothing and skin and trigger allergies even when mere. Experts recommend avoiding such areas and cleaning the skin immediately on contact. Warning signs and possibly barriers in affected forest areas are urgently necessary as a protective measure. In strong attacks, professional pest control can also be considered, with biological products being more environmentally friendly and choosing should be treated when it comes to pesticides.

Overall, it becomes clear that the local authorities are required to protect walkers and residents. It is high time that the slow spread of the oak processionary spinner in our region is not only attentively registered, but also proactively addressed. This is the only way to ensure that the pleasant natural experience in the area is also secured for everyone involved.
