Dobbertin students celebrate new parallel tandem for more inclusion!
The lessons at the Theodor Fontane special school in Dobbertin will now be enriched by a very special vehicle: a parallel tandem that invites students with motor disabilities to take part in the bicycle initiative. The tandem was transported by Philipp Reich's shipping company in Goldberg, which kindly provided its services free of charge for this purpose. The school principal Svea Krause was extremely pleased with the arrival of the tandem and reported on a successful test drive on the shipping company's premises. The students also had the opportunity to view the trucking company's tractor and simply sit down comfortably in it.
The parallel tandem will make a significant contribution to the participation and self-realization of the students by enabling them to be active together with their classmates. “The feeling of freedom and moving together is invaluable for our students,” says Krause. The transport and the entire organization were carried out smoothly thanks to the commitment of André Lewerenz, who made contact with the shipping company.
Call for donations for further projects
The purchase of the tandem was financed by generous donations, for which the parents' council and the school management of the Theodor Fontane special school would like to express their thanks. To further promote mobility, the parents' council is planning a fundraising campaign entitled "Give the gift of mobility - enable participation!". This initiative aims to fund a rickshaw specifically designed for children and young people with complex multiple disabilities to enable them to participate in the cycling initiative.
The total amount of funds required is around 4,500 euros. Krause points out that the school is not eligible for funding through common social donation projects. Every contribution counts, no matter how small, in order to achieve the goals of inclusion, participation and enjoyment of movement for the children. Donations can be transferred directly to the account of the Association for the Promotion of Dobbertin Monastery e.V. The account information is: Volks- und Raiffeisenbank e.G., IBAN: DE28 1406 1308 0008 4242 09, BIC: GENODEF1GUE, purpose: school bicycle initiative.
Inclusion as an important component
The efforts come at the right time, especially since the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities continues to be a challenge in Germany. A study by the Berlin Science Center for Social Research revealed that there has been little progress in inclusion in several federal states, such as Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria. The situation is different in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, where steps have already been taken towards inclusive regular school offerings.[ German school portal ] Inclusion and participation are not just buzzwords, but essential components of school education that strengthen cooperation and a sense of community.
With the parallel tandem and the desired rickshaw, the Theodor Fontane special school shows that inclusion works in practice and that children in need of support can be actively involved in school life. A strong sign for everyone who cares about participation in life.
