Major fire in the old train station building in Goldberg: Police are investigating!

In Goldberg, a tranquil town in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district, a major fire broke out in the old train station building on October 16th. The alarm for the fire brigade was triggered shortly after 4:30 a.m., which resulted in a massive deployment of over 60 firefighters from the surrounding communities such as Dobbertin, Lübz, Wendisch Waren and Neu Poserin. Nordkurier reports that the full fire could only be brought under control around 10:30 a.m.

The former train station building, which has been empty for years and is owned by a company from Zeitz, burned to the ground. The fire brigade not only had to struggle with the flames, but also with the heavy smoke, which prompted a warning from the Schwerin fire and rescue control center. Residents were asked to keep windows and doors closed ( NDR ).

Coordination and support

Operations manager Daniel Kühne carried out the operation with a well-organized team, which received support from, among other things, the fire-fighting group from Lübz, which provided a turntable ladder to fight the flames from two sides. The fire department used water from a nearby pond in the old sawmill and a fire hydrant on Long Street to extinguish the fire. Despite the significant efforts of the fire brigade, some drivers had to ignore the complete closure of federal highway 192, which led to dangerous scenes, because the king of visibility was the cloud of smoke that covered the entire area.

The police were also there and had to document minimal damage to a truck, whose driver could be warned in time to get his vehicle out of the danger zone. Criminal police and fire investigators have already been called in, as the estimated damage is around 500,000 euros. Investigators believe it was intentional arson because the entire building burned down, and the first witnesses have already been interviewed ( Northern Courier ).

Sustainable use

The Rewe market in Goldberg supplied the emergency services with food throughout the operation, which is always welcome in such tense situations. The local fire department is currently working on detecting the last embers with the help of thermal imaging cameras. Experts describe this incident as particularly tragic because the building has been in the news for coking in the past and is now permanently lost.

For the residents, the memory of that fateful night remains as well as the tireless work of the fire brigade, which demonstrated what it means to stand together in an emergency. We can only hope that the investigation will quickly clarify the cause of the fire.
