Neptune Festival in Zarrentin: Thousands celebrate new visitor record!
Zarrentin, Deutschland - Big party mood was in Zarrentin last weekend when the traditional Neptune Festival at the bathing area reached its climax. A visitor record of over 4,000 guests on the opening Friday ensured that the mood on the bathing beach was left out. The festival has been attracting people from the region for 69 years now and has established itself as an integral part of the city's event calendar. So thousands did not miss the Neptun baptism, a very special spectacle that requires both effort and a good hand.
Visitors enjoyed baptism from the shade -giving places on the beach. Neptunty baptism not only honors committed citizens of Zarrentin, but also has the traditions of the GDR times when it was particularly popular with holiday camps. Mayor Klaus Draeger praised the work of the volunteers and the DLRG at the opening.
The Neptunty baptism and their baptisms
This year five new baptists were welcomed, which were introduced to the ceremony with certificates and fun names. Among them were:
- Henrik Rose (trainer and goalkeeper at Empor Zarrentin)
- Kolja Mainitz (police officer)
- Denise Ködderritzsch (speech therapist in the Kulturhaus 3-Zak)
- Martin Meissner (head of Beach & Burger, former Schaalseklause)
- Torsten Engel (head of the municipal building yard)
This special baptism was accompanied by a three -day folk festival that offered all facets of a successful festival, from rides to music screenings and dance to numerous snack stands. So there was something for every taste, and the families from the region were able to celebrate and enjoy together.
folk festival culture - a piece of history
The Neptune Festival and similar events have a long tradition in the region and are closely linked to the history of folk festival culture in the former GDR. These festivals were created after the Second World War when the conditions for showmen were anything but easy. Many showmen were encouraged to organize festivals for the Soviet occupation soldiers, which was often dangerous. Nevertheless, the showmen fought to maintain their business and enable folk festivals for the general population. With the foundation of the GDR, new challenges began that subordinated the showman industry, but the folk festival culture continued to bloom, which is also evident in Zarentin.
In today's world, such festivals as the Neptune Festival are an integral part of cultural life in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. They not only bring joy and entertainment, but also preserve traditions that are deeply rooted in the region. Anyone who missed the Neptune Festival should already look forward to next year, because in July it will be called again: Neptune calls!
