Low water: Fire brigade in the Neuhaus office is fighting big challenges!

A dry summer presented the fire brigade in the Neuhaus office with some challenges. According to Nordkurier , the ability to operate is severely restricted by low water in the rivers and ferry failures. There has been no ferry connection between Darchau and Neu Darchau for over 60 days, and the ferry between Neu Bleckede and Bleckede has had problems with the load for two weeks. The fire brigade forces these factors to plan longer travel routes for support forces. Community fire chief Dirk Baumann emphasizes how important it is to plan longer lead times for emergencies.

The fire brigade of the municipality of Neuhaus has over 330 emergency services and can fall back on modern technology. This helps decisively to cope with the diverse missions that have accumulated in the past few months. Particularly noteworthy is the close cooperation with units from the district of Lüneburg, which offers mutual support in operations and training.

missions and challenges

In the reporting year, the local fire brigades in the Neuhaus office performed 198 missions, as was reported at the annual general meeting of the municipal fire brigade association in mid -March. In this meeting, Baumann pointed out the increase in the Severity of missions, especially in traffic accidents, in which injuries or even deaths were often complained about. Another 41 fire operations, including several arson, and 49 technical assistance, often to support the emergency services, make the challenges that the fire brigade faces. These changed framework conditions also have an impact on the municipal operations management, which is always trained together with other aid organizations to increase the efficiency of the operations.

A highlight of the report was also the 136 courses carried out to qualify the firefighters, which means 43 more than in the previous year. The operations department has 328 members, while the age and honor department 83, the youth fire brigade 67, the children's fire brigade 72 and the dangerous property group 12 members include, such as the Lüneburg currently reported.

Personnel changes and honors

News from the dangerous property group: Holger Stöckmann handed over the group driver's post to Jan Lange, while Florian Fischer becomes new deputy. Solemn honors were not neglected because different members were honored for their years of loyalty to the fire brigade. Among them was Günter Elbing, who received the fire brigade badge for 50 years. Further honors went to Jörg Garloff for 40 years and to several members for 25 years in the service of the fire brigade. This speaks for the connection and the vigor that the fire brigade shows in the region.

In the context of 687 registered violent acts against fire brigades in Germany in 2023, it was also pointed out to increasing uncertainty in operations that are increasingly occurring in large cities such as North Rhine-Westphalia and Berlin. In this context, it is important to emphasize the support of the community. After all, every fire brigade is dependent on the trust and safety of the population in order to be able to meet their critical tasks as well as possible. The social circumstances also present fire brigades with challenges. Nevertheless, the motivation remains high how the regular joint exercises and the initiatives to improve cooperation show.
