Today, December 5th, 2025, Ludwigslust has a new culinary hotspot: The grill snack bar “Erbil” has opened its doors and is already causing lively discussions among the locals. The whole thing is run by Walid Khaled Yasin, who originally comes from Erbil in northern Iraq and has lived in Germany for 22 years. Yasin focuses on a diverse range of dishes, where the focus is on the kebab, but other delicacies such as pizza are also on the menu.
The new location at Buswendeplatz, just a few steps away from the busy Alexandrinenplatz, was previously a Späti and has been thoroughly renovated and converted. This project was significantly supported by Aram Khachatryan, the city's economic developer. An important aspect in the decision to open the shop here was the increasing development of the snack culture in Ludwigslust, which can be observed particularly on Schweriner Straße, which is increasingly developing into a “food mile”.
Quality at fair prices
Walid Yasin attaches great importance to offering high-quality food at fair prices. This means that guests at “Erbil” can enjoy a kebab at cheaper prices than at the competition. Special daily offers are also planned for the opening to offer the first visitors something very special. Yasin gained his first experiences in the catering industry in 2005 and would now like to bring his know-how to Ludwigslust.
The location opposite the busy bus station attracts many students who can grab a quick snack while waiting for the bus. “We have a good hand for this location, the demand for snack food is growing,” says Yasin. With this concept he would like to contribute to the gastronomic revitalization of Schweriner Straße.
The surroundings in view
The “Erbil” is also part of an environment that is enlivened by other local restaurants, such as the nearby Alanya Grillhaus at Schweriner Straße 11. Turkish delicacies are offered there, which are also very popular. With a price range of 1 to 10 euros and positive reviews of Turkish cuisine and hospitable staff, the Alanya Grillhaus attracts many guests. Visitors particularly appreciate the fact that they can take their food with them, even though unfortunately no delivery service is offered.
The gastronomy scene in Ludwigslust clearly shows that the culinary offering is becoming more diverse and attracting more and more people. Whether at “Erbil” or in the Alanya Grillhaus, there is something for every taste here in a friendly, cozy atmosphere.
