Swedish visitors delight in Wismar's Christmas market!

Are you ready for a little Christmas flair? On December 3, 2025, Jonas Svendsen and Anders Stenson from Kalmar, Sweden, were guests in Wismar. Your goal? Inspiration for her own Christmas market and expanding the Christmas offerings in her hometown. As the city of Wismar stated in a current announcement wismar.de reported, the two Swedes held a meeting with Wismar's mayor Thomas Beyer as well as representatives of the event headquarters and the department for international relations.

The Christmas exchange with Wismar is no coincidence. Kalmar would like to benefit from Wismar's years of experience and also seek inspiration from other cities such as Rostock, Lübeck and even Copenhagen. Visitors were particularly impressed by the atmospheric backdrop of the Wismar Christmas market and the starry forest at the Old Harbor.

The Christmas market in Wismar

The traditional Christmas market in Wismar will once again be a highlight for young and old this year. On wismar.m-vp.de you can read that the Swedish-style huts are a real eye-catcher. Here visitors can try numerous delicacies: from hot mulled wine and sea buckthorn juice to bratwursts, sweet cotton candy and crispy hats. International products and Christmas items from Thuringia and the Ore Mountains are also on offer.

Another highlight is the fairytale forest, which is decorated with a witch's house and characters from Grimm's fairy tales. For the little ones there is an extensive program on the Christmas market stage, which includes live music, story times and clown shows - ideal for a family-friendly outing from Friday to Sunday. In addition to these offers, children at the Christmas market can also live out their creative skills in the craft hut, decorate Christmas balls or send letters of wish to Santa Claus.

The doors of the Christmas market are open invitingly: from Sunday to Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday and Saturday until 9:00 p.m. And don't forget: The traditional art market and the Wismar Star Forest at the Old Harbor enrich the Christmas ambience and offer numerous regional products and culinary delicacies, including various types of licorice and the popular bratwurst.

The city of Wismar impressively shows how tradition and modern inspiration can be combined, and it will be exciting to see what ideas the Swedish guests will take home with them in the end.
