Attention railway fans: Demminer Museum opens its doors!

A happy event is coming: On November 1st, the new Demmin Railway Museum will open its doors at 10 a.m. and invites young and old to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of railway history. The location on Bahnhofstrasse, in the immediate vicinity of the signal box, ensures that visitors can immediately immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the old railway days, because a piece of history is brought to life here.

With a lot of commitment and effort, the Demminer Heimatverein has rebuilt the post 120 almost true to the original. This restoration work is a centerpiece of the museum, which has been dedicated over the years to the preservation and presentation of objects relating to Demmin's railway history. The Mantelbude, another historical delight, will also be on display in the museum. Preparations for the opening ceremony are in full swing and the association can count on support from various sources, including the Hanseatic City of Demmin, municipal utilities, the Vorpommern-Fonds, the Sparkasse Neubrandenburg-Demmin, the Volksbank Demmin as well as numerous local companies and private individuals.

Diverse exhibits and historical analysis

The museum will not only present Item 120. Thanks to the commitment of the local history association, there are numerous witnesses to railway history to marvel at. The outdoor area is supplemented with various railway exhibits and information boards about Demmin's railway history impressively show interested visitors the stories and memories behind these objects.

Part of this project also includes the reconstruction of the gatekeeper's house at the Jarmener Straße level crossing. The dismantling and storage of the roof structure in 2021, supported by the Köppen roofing company, are already important steps towards the success of the project. The groundbreaking ceremony for the reconstruction took place in 2023, symbolizing the progress in this extraordinary project.
