Mecklenburg Lake District: 1.35 million euros for cultural projects!
The Mecklenburg Lake District region is facing an exciting chapter in its cultural development. The project “Culture for All in Dreistrom.Land” was selected by a jury of experts for the “Aller.Land” funding program. This makes it one of the 30 projects in Germany that will receive a total of 1.35 million euros in funding from the federal government over the next five years Strelitzius reported.
The initiative aims to strengthen culture in rural areas and promote cohesion among the population. Minister of State for Culture Wolfram Weimer emphasized that democracy should be strengthened through citizen participation. Among other things, collaborative projects with artists and music festivals are planned, which are intended to help enrich the cultural landscape of the region the federal government highlights.
Diverse offers for the region
The heart of the project is the kultur.schule, which acts as a network center. It operates branches in Altentreptow, Demmin, Malchin and Stavenhagen and offers a wide range of extracurricular educational and cultural activities. The planned participation formats include the residency program “mein.Block”, in which artists move into prefabricated apartments in order to develop participatory projects. Additional offers such as the mobile singing project “unser.Chor” and the museum project “unser.Museum”, which aims to make exhibits from the Demmin Regional Museum accessible again, are also on the agenda.
As part of “Aller.Land”, the federal government is providing a total of 45 million euros for the next five years, of which each of the 30 projects will be funded with 1.5 million euros. The states and municipalities also contribute with co-financing of 10 percent. These funds should not only contribute to strengthening culture, but also to creating a lively community so that the cultural identity of the region remains alive.
A step into the future
The “Aller.Land” program was launched in May 2023 and aims to support a total of 97 submitted concepts for new cultural projects in Germany. The selection of the funded projects was made by four independent expert juries, with regional networking and people's participation in the projects being the central criteria. In addition to the Mecklenburg Lake District, other districts such as Northwest Mecklenburg and Western Pomerania-Greifswald are also included in the funding.
At the same time, the Federal Cultural Foundation is launching another program, “LOKAL”, which is intended to promote the development of long-term networks in cities and communities with fewer than 100,000 inhabitants. You can apply for up to 240,000 euros per project over a period of four years to support cultural initiatives. Therefore, the future of cultural projects in the region is promising, like the Federal Cultural Foundation communicates.
Overall, current developments show that a lot can be achieved in the Mecklenburg Lake District region. Creativity and community spirit should be promoted with a breath of fresh air and financial support - a win-win for everyone.
