Architectural dreams: Exhibition in the historical framework of the Nikolaikirche

In the coming week, the St. Nikolaikirche in Prenzlau will become the scene of architectural masterpieces when the exhibition "BDA Prize Brandenburg 2024" will open on June 21 at 4 p.m. The Federation of German Architects (BDA) invites all interested visitors to use this unique opportunity inside. The exhibition focuses on the importance of regional building culture in rural areas and shows a total of ten outstanding buildings that represent both architectural quality and ecological sustainability and social responsibility. A highlight is the impressive field stone house in the Uckermark - a converted stable that now serves as an energy -efficient residential building.

What makes the field stone house so special? Originally intended as a stable of a four -sided courtyard, the now converted building shines in new light. It consists of traditional raw materials that come directly from the surrounding area: field stones, clay, burned bricks, wood and sand from a nearby gravel pit. The architects have taken care of respecting nature by only maintaining what was really necessary. The remains of the courtyard, which was once filled with agricultural life, are reservedly integrated into the design.

architecture meets nature

The architecture of the Feldsteinhaus combines old building traditions with contemporary design. The outer walls made of red brick were carefully preserved and supplemented by new openings, which the house not only enriches functionally, but also aesthetically. A skylight in the roof ensures pleasant flooding of light, while on the ground floor a central concrete room houses the bathroom and at the same time has a stabilizing function. The inside of the stone envelope is provided with an insulation plaster made of lime and clay, which contributes to the energy efficiency of the house.

The St. Nikolaikirche offers the perfect place with its historical framework to present these successful architectural implementations. Interested parties from the Uckermark and the surrounding area can visit the exhibits for free and be inspired by the fusion of history and modern architecture.

A look into the future of architecture

While the exhibition "BDA Prize Brandenburg 2024" puts the local construction process into the spotlight, large awards are also awarded at the national level. By March 25, 2025, buildings that have been completed in recent years can be submitted. The price is endowed with 30,000 euros - recognition of excellent architecture.
