30 years of experience dance: Jubilee celebration for seniors in Güstrow!

Güstrow, Deutschland - On June 14, 2025, the time has come: The State Association of Adventure Dance celebrates its 30th anniversary in the sports and congress hall Güstrow in the Rostock district. Several hundred guests are expected on this special occasion. The state association, which was founded in 1995, is an important authority in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania with around 120 active dance groups. These groups offer a wide range of dance styles, which is primarily tailored to the needs of seniors. These include standard and couple dance, circular dances as well as block and gas dances. Karin Fourmont, a representative of the association, emphasizes how important these groups are for social contacts and fitness of older people, which underlines the popularity of the dance offers.

But not only as part of the adventure dance, dance is very popular with seniors. Various facilities in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, such as the adult education center "Ehm Welk" in Schwerin, offer a variety of courses under the motto "Active in old age". In addition to senior dance, this also includes computer and smartphone use as well as spinal gymnastics. The adult education center has 14 different senior groups that offer numerous events, including lectures on health and culture as well as excursions and day trips. The courses are currently accessible for 51.60 euros per semester. Information on this is available by phone and online.

social dance: more than just movement

social dance is particularly popular with older people. The experiences of dance teacher Anna Weber, who looks back for 20 years, show that many of her students revive at familiar melodies such as waltz and foxtrot. These dances not only promote balance and coordination, but also support social interaction among the participants: inside. Studies have also confirmed that regular dance activities for seniors have positive effects on fitness and well -being.

In addition, modern dance forms such as Zumba Gold come into play, which are aimed at older people. This joint-friendly version of the well-known dance fitness program is slower and avoids jumps, which promotes the fun factor, says fitness trainer Lisa Müller. Studies show that two Zumba gold courses per week can improve perseverance by up to 38%.

line dance as a challenge and pleasure

Another popular activity for seniors is the line dance, which does not require a dance partner and thus offers a lot of flexibility. Dr. Thomas Weber from an Institute for Movement Research has found that this form of dance offers cognitive stimulation, since simple steps are combined with memory training. This not only promotes coordination, but also the spatial orientation, which is particularly advantageous for older people. A study by the German Sports University proves that regular participants from Line Dance have an improvement in spatial orientation by 42%.

Overall, it shows that movement through dance is not only a fun factor for seniors, but also brings health benefits. The State Association of Experience Dance and similar offers make a valuable contribution to the quality of life and social integration of older people in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
