Balthazar stolen! Kühlungsborn is desperately looking for the wooden figure
“What’s going on in Kühlungsborn?” one asks oneself in view of a scandalous incident that shook the tranquil city during Advent. On the first weekend of Advent, more precisely on the night of November 29th to 30th, 2025, the wooden figure Balthasar, one of the Three Kings, was stolen from the traditionally illuminated Christmas pyramid in front of the town hall. This special attraction attracts numerous visitors during Advent and is valued as an essential part of the Christmas magic in Kühlungsborn.
The city of Kühlungsborn condemned the incident and described it as gross damage to property. “We are disappointed and cannot understand the behavior of the perpetrators during the festive period,” explains the city administration, which classifies the theft as “incomprehensible”. Completely unacceptable, especially at a time of reflection and togetherness!
Public call for returns
The city is appealing to the public to return the wooden figure or at least leave it anonymously in front of the town hall. “An uncomplicated return is accepted,” it is emphasized. A reward of 500 euros is even being offered for information that leads to the discovery of Balthasar. The city is confident there are many people in the community who can help repair this loss. If you know anything, you can contact Mr. Reimer at the main office in confidence. The contact details are email: p.reimer@stadt-kborn.de and telephone: (038293) 823407.
"It would be a nice gesture if the perpetrator or perpetrators accepted responsibility and brought the figure back. After all, Advent is a time of giving," was the city administration's final encouragement.
A plea for the community
In a spiritual sense, this sad episode also calls us to reflect on the meaning of traditions and symbols that bind us together. The Christmas pyramid is not just a pretty piece of wooden decoration, but also symbolizes solidarity and the joy that this special season brings. We hope that Balthasar will be back soon and with him the festive atmosphere in Kühlungsborn, which is also characterized by such small but fine traditions.
The city of Kühlungsborn will remain vigilant and hopes for information from the population. Who knows, perhaps this incident can still lead to a positive rethink that not only restores the loss, but also restores the heart of the community.
