Rostock water jumper club shines out despite the renovation!

The water jumper club Rostock has been awarded the contract in the NDR program campaign "United in the north" and will be visited on June 19 by the moderators Julia Westlake and Philipp Schmid. The campaign aims to promote volunteering, especially in water activities. With around 600 members, including 200 performance jumpers, the association is an important player in the Rostock sports landscape. The club has been active for 25 years and offers training opportunities for different age groups. The competitive athletes in particular are in their hobby over 20 hours of training per week. There are four training sessions for the younger members, whereby dry training, acrobatics, stretching and strength training, is about half of the training time.

This year the water jumper club has land to celebrate. Jette Müller represented the club at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, while her team-mate Finn Awe won gold twice at the 2024 junior World Championships in Rio. This success makes the club the most successful German club in this age category at an international level. But the association also faces challenges: the Rostock Neptune Schwimmhalle, which previously served them as a training center, has been renovated since summer 2025 to April 2026. During this time, the athletes have to avoid Berlin, Dresden, Halle or Leipzig - a big challenge for the club.

The Neptune swimming pool in focus

The Neptune Schwimmhalle is not only the training center of the water jumper club, but also plays a central role in competition sports in Rostock. The sports pool was opened in 1955 and is one of the most modern indoor swimming pools in Europe. The main concerns of the renovation work are the improvement of the infrastructure and the creation of optimal conditions for club swimming, competitive sports and leisure activities. The bathroom has been offering numerous options for water sports since the last comprehensive renovations of 2014, including swimming courses, water jumping, water polo and diving.

With the planned renovation of the outdoor pool and the indoor swimming halls, the city of Rostock will take into account the increasing interest in water sports. National and international competitions, including the German jumping championships, take place here regularly - a real magnet for sports enthusiasts!

volunteer commitment as the basis

An important building block that makes up the success of sports clubs in Germany, and thus also in the Rostock water jumper club, is voluntary work. According to data, over 8.85 million people are involved in German sports clubs, with volunteers playing a central role. The average work performance of the committed is around 446 million hours annually. This commitment is particularly high in the sports area, since almost 16.3 percent of the population are active here. The support of volunteers enables club structures and promotes sense of community.

Especially in the difficult times when the Rostock water jumper club deals with its renovation, the importance of diligence and operational readiness becomes clear: it is the personal commitment of individuals that holds the club together.

With the support of the NDR campaign and the view of upcoming challenges, the Rostock water jumper club remains optimistic. The committed members are ready to fight for their sporting challenges in the coming years - no matter where the trip leads them!
