Anklam surfboat team starts the competition - adventure in southern England!

An exciting weekend is in store for the Anklam surfboat team! The crew from Anklam will take part in a regional competition series in Saunton, southern England. It's not just about fame and honor, but also about representing Germany and Europe in a sport that is still relatively unknown in this country. The team is the only active surfboat team in Germany and Europe and trains up to three times a week to be prepared for the challenge.

The competition itself is anything but leisurely boating. Participants have to row 400 meters against the waves, go around a buoy and then surf back to the beach. This demanding distance requires not only strength, but also excellent technique - true to the motto: "If it doesn't splash, it hasn't surfed!" The crew consists of eight members, including four rowers and a helmsman, all members of the DLRG Anklam local group and trained lifeguards.

Successful on the waves

The Anklamer team brings a lot of experience. They have already taken part in World Rescue Sports Championships in Australia, the country from which the sport of surfboat rowing originated. Research shows that the first competition took place in Australia in 1908. Since then, surfboat rowing has developed from an important rescue technique into a popular popular sport, practiced in over 300 surf lifesaving clubs in Australia.

The complexity of surfboat rowing lies in the changeable conditions of the ocean. In order to be successful in competition, rowers not only have to train their muscles, but also perfect their surfing skills. Maintaining stability in the waves, catching waves and effectively turning around the buoy are crucial techniques. Rowing crazy emphasizes that teamwork and a common strategy under the leadership of the helmsman are crucial for success.

Challenges and self-financing

In addition to the technical challenges, there is another hurdle: participation in competitions must be financed by the team itself. This means that every trip, every boat and all the equipment has to be paid for out of your own pocket. It is clear that the Anklam surfboat team shows great passion to be successful not only domestically but also internationally in competitive sports. The team takes part in at least one competition abroad every year, and their commitment shows how seriously they take their craft.

In Anklam it will be eagerly awaited to see how the team will perform. The said competition in Saunton could not only bring the honorable title, but also mark another step in the history of the Anklam surfboat team. Who knows, perhaps another success awaits us soon – on the waves of this fascinating sport!
