News from Eggesin: Mega roundabout will soon have its asphalt!
A lot is currently happening in Eggesin. Construction work on the mega construction site on Lindenstrasse is progressing quickly. According to a report by Northern Courier The first and second construction phases have already been opened to traffic. The third construction phase, which runs between the special school and the new entrance to Zlotower Straße, is nearing completion - with an impressive completion of 90% of the work.
The new roundabout, which is almost completed at the entrance to Hans-Fischer-Straße, is particularly eye-catching. The curbs have been set and the sidewalk paving has been laid. Despite the cold temperatures, the construction method brings a breath of fresh air to the region, and the trucks continue to roll in to bring in materials. The asphalting, which was originally planned for Monday, had to be postponed to Wednesday due to the weather conditions, but should be completed by December 10, 2025 at the latest.
Extensive construction work and challenges
The construction work is now expanding towards Stettiner Straße and Zlotower Straße. Unfortunately, the parking lot on Max-Matern-Straße and the parking deck on Zlotower Straße remain inaccessible during this time. Another downer: the planned completion of the entire construction work by the end of the year is no longer realistic. The reasons for this are additional roads and problems with old lines. To improve the infrastructure, the drinking water pipe will be extended to Stettiner Straße, and the sidewalk between Karl-Marx-Straße and the special school will be widened, including the installation of a new bus stop.
Some property owners were also surprised by the circumstances - private properties extended to the middle of the street, which led to misunderstandings. Unplanned measurements meant that the roundabout had to be moved by 1.5 meters. Despite these obstacles, the total cost of the work amounts to around 4.3 million euros. Depending on the weather, the roads could be completed in around three months, but this could take significantly longer in the winter.
Future prospects for Eggesin
After the construction work is completed, the city also plans to set up a small park with around ten trees and benches to offer residents and visitors a green retreat. These developments are in the context of nationwide efforts to modernize and improve the transport infrastructure. As the federal government explains in a report on new construction projects in road transport, extensive investments of around 3.6 billion euros are currently being made for new motorway construction projects and 710 million euros for federal roads, including measures in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania such as the B 110. Federal Government wants to ensure that the entire federal highway network meets modern requirements with record investments of 169 billion euros by 2029.
The Eggesin construction site is not just another piece of the puzzle in the region, but part of a comprehensive initiative to improve the transport infrastructure in Germany. What happens next remains exciting – and we will keep our readers updated!
