Great danger in Butzow: Garage burns and causes 250,000 euros in damage!

On August 9, 2025, the small town of Butzow in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district was hit by a violent fire. The fire department was alerted around 1 p.m. after the rescue control center was informed about the flames in a garage with two vehicles. Initially the garage burned down completely, but the fire quickly spread to the roof structure of an adjacent house. Such incidents pose a serious challenge to affected communities, particularly at a time when the causes of fires are often difficult to determine.

Around 60 emergency services, including firefighters from Anklam, Butzow, Blesewitz, Neuenkirchen, Spantekow, Rebelow, Dennin and Alt Teterin, worked together to put out the fire. Thanks to their quick reaction, the flames were prevented from spreading further. But while the fire brigade acted successfully, the material damage was quickly determined: the sum caused by this fire was around 250,000 euros, with the garage and the roof structure of the house completely burned out. Fortunately, the residents of the house were uninjured and were able to be temporarily accommodated in an adjoining building. NDR reported.

Investigation into the cause of the fire

The police immediately started an investigation. With the help of a fire investigator, the cause of the fire will be determined in the coming days. Such measures are crucial to better address future fires preventatively. The press portal highlights that the Criminal Investigation Department will carry out a more comprehensive investigation the following day.

As fire protection statistics show, it is important to continually work to improve fire protection. However, Germany still lacks comprehensive and uniform fire statistics that could facilitate the analysis of such incidents. FeuerTrutz points out that accurate data about fires and their causes are not only important for education, but can also contribute to improving preventive measures in fire protection.

Overall, it is to be hoped that the investigations will produce results quickly and that such incidents can be avoided in the future. Fire and police departments work tirelessly to keep communities safe, and the importance of such community efforts cannot be overstated.
