Forest fire near Löcknitz: Fire brigade fights the flames for hours!

On Friday afternoon, July 5, 2025, there was a significant forest fire near Löcknitz. The first emergency services responded at around 4 p.m. and fought for hours against the flames, which affected an area of around 9,000 square meters. The fire department did an excellent job with a team of 55 firefighters from Löcknitz, Boock, Rothenklempenow, Brüssow and Menkin to fight the fire and prevent it from spreading.

Operations manager Enrico Harms described that a shuttle service with tank fire engines had been set up to ensure the water supply. The extinguishing work was completed shortly before 9 p.m. Nevertheless, it took until around 10 p.m. for the clean-up work to be finalized. Fortunately, there were no injuries at the scene and the cause of the fire is still unknown. This fire is the second in this region in a month, after a similar incident on June 3, 2025, where an area of about 5,000 square meters was already affected and the police have started an investigation on suspicion of arson.

Background to the fire events

Forest fires pose a serious threat to the environment, especially in densely populated countries such as Germany, where forests fulfill important useful, protective and recreational functions. According to the Federal Agency for Agriculture and Food, nationwide forest fire data has been collected since the 1970s, providing information about area sizes, causes and financial expenditure for prevention and control. The goal of these statistics is to reduce the frequency and extent of forest fires in the future.

In the current situation in Löcknitz, it is of great importance to determine the causes of these fires in order to avoid further incidents and to be able to initiate effective preventive measures. The fire brigade and authorities are working intensively to clarify this question and to ensure the safety of the forest and the residents.

It is all the more gratifying that despite the challenges that forest fires pose, the fire departments on site responded so quickly and efficiently. Your commitment ensures that the forests of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania remain protected and that normal life in the region is not further disrupted. The observations of the last few weeks underline the need to continue to be vigilant and protect the forest.
