Residents' meetings: Citizens of Malchin and Neukalen invited to wind power!

Things will get exciting in the towns of Malchin and Neukalen on November 25th, as both communities invite their citizens to residents' meetings to discuss the explosive topic of wind power. The people of Malchin meet in the town hall at 6 p.m., while the people of Neukalen meet in the fire station at 7 p.m. The openness of the discussion promises lively discussions, even if representatives of the “Mecklenburg Lake District” regional planning association will not be present that evening.

The events come at a critical time, as the planning association has until December 12th to receive comments and objections to the proposed “priority areas” for wind turbines. These priority areas are crucial because they ensure that wind turbines have priority over other uses. The planned areas include:

  • 46 Hektar bei Schorrentin
  • Gebiete bei Varchentin/Kittendorf und Bredenfelde/Briggow
  • 225 Hektar bei Zettemin
  • Weitere Flächen bei Scharpzow
  • 227 Hektar bei Liepen zwischen Faulenrost und Gielow

Participation and objections

Peter Seifert, the office manager of the planning association, will take part in a non-public meeting with mayors and official committee members in the Malchin office on November 20th. There is also resistance to the wind power plans in Neukalen. Artist Friedrike Antony leads a group of wind power opponents who are calling for active participation in the participation process. Citizens have the opportunity to address their objections and opinions directly to the regional planning association in Neubrandenburg.

The discourse on wind power is supplemented not only by the residents' meetings, but also by the review by the responsible nature conservation authority. It is important for citizens to participate in these conversations because the consequences of the decisions affect not only the local landscape, but also the region's future energy policy.
