Decline in the city cycling: Schwerin drives 9,000 kilometers less!

Ludwigslust, Deutschland - A good 3,000 people from Westmecklenburg took part in the city cycling campaign this year, covering a total of around 500,000 kilometers. These are a lot of cycling kilometers, but the joy of these numbers should not be made. Because compared to the previous year, almost 9,000 kilometers less were cycled in the state capital Schwerin. A total of 276,000 kilometers were counted here, with around 1,400 participants involved in the three -day campaign. There was also a decline in the Northwest Mecklenburg district, where around 750 participants covered 146,000 kilometers and thus 7,000 kilometers less than last year. Around 870 people were active in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district and covered about 78,000 kilometers-here too the number of kilometers dropped by 2,000 kilometers compared to the previous year.

The city cycling is a nationwide initiative that not only emphasizes the fun of cycling, but also puts the need for a better cycling infrastructure into the spotlight. The Climate protection plays a central role in this. Throughout Germany, the kilometers of the participants will be recorded during the campaign from May 1 to September 30, over a period of 21 days. A look at the statistics shows that many people are already on the road environmentally friendly and actively contribute to improving the climate. The idea behind the competition is to make the advantages of cycling tangible and thus motivate more people to cover everyday paths by bike.

Overall, the participants saved around 80 tons of CO₂ this year. A remarkable amount that makes it clear that every cycled route counts. The initiative also aims to draw attention to the concerns of cyclists. Political decision -makers are stimulated to put themselves in the position of the cyclists and to improve the existing infrastructure conditions. Because only with an adequate cycle path network is a permanent switch from the car on the bike - this point is emphasized by the organizers and the participants alike.

Of course, the most active municipalities and teams are honored at the end of the campaign. This not only ensures a competitive idea, but also a certain connection within the municipalities. Because it's not just about counting kilometers, but about experiencing fresh air, movement and joy in cycling.
