Sternberg wins again: Was the election campaign really unfair?

In a clear political vote, Stefan Sternberg was once again elected to the district administrator of the Ludwigslust-Parchim district by the SPD on May 11, 2025. With impressive 57.9 percent of the votes, he secured the absolute majority in the first ballot and will thus compete. A church male thing that he can stay at the top for seven years in order to promote the renovation of monuments and to improve outpatient health care.

But not everything was easy in the election campaign. The Norddeutsche Rundfunk criticized the campaign methods of Sternberg as unfair. Especially during the election campaign, the district administrator relied on testimonials and advertising, including posters and videos with prominent supporters, such as the mayors Rico Reichelt (left) and Kriemhild Kant (non -party). Some of these supporters, in particular Jörg Klingohr (Bauer Korl) and General a.D. Gerd Kropf, had economic connections to the district, which caused some discussions.

unfair or normal?

The allegations that Sternberg was confronted with was primarily about access to certain economic resources. So the svz had to be the case with the district, which was interpreted as an advantage for Sternberg. Kopf had a service contract for advice in civil protection, which brought almost 60,000 euros from 2022 to 2024. Klingohr received around 60,000 euros in the same period for individual orders, although these orders were no longer relevant in election year 2025.

After all, the district administrator is in a good light because it always handled the economic connections transparently. Sternberg himself described the allegations as absurd and explained that such relationships were publicly known. Above all, his team dismissed the allegations as part of an attempted campaign.

Occupation in increasing tendency

Voter turnout rose to 50.6 percent - a gratifying increase compared to the 34.0 percent in the last election in 2018. This can be viewed in the larger context of the German electoral landscape. In general, it can be seen that the turnout has increased in many federal states in recent years, which indicates a growing interest of the population in political issues. For example, the turnout in the Bundestag election in 2021 is 76.6 percent, which underlines the constant effort for more participation in the population.

Overall, the exciting outcome of the district election shows that Stefan Sternberg has clear plans to further develop the district and to include all citizens. The thanks, which he expressed in his speech on the election victory, reflects the feeling of cohesion in the district and the important cooperation with the municipalities. It will be interesting to see what impulses this new term for Ludwigslust-Parchim will bring!
