B208 in Gadebusch becomes free - but new full closures soon!
Numerous road construction work is currently being carried out in northwest Mecklenburg, which has a significant impact on traffic. The routes between Damshagen and Klütz and between Hohenkirchen and Proseken are particularly affected. An important message is that the full closure of the B208 near Veelböken will be lifted on October 25, 2025. A 50 meter damaged area was repaired here, so that the road is now passable again. But the relief is short-lived, because from October 27, 2025, the B208 in the urban area of Gadebusch will be completely closed again.
This time the reason is the renewal of the section from the Steinstrasse intersection to the town exit in the direction of Mühlen Eichsen. The work is divided into three construction phases:
- B208 Kreuzung Steinstraße bis Kreuzung Güstower Weg
- Kreuzung Güstower Weg bis Kreuzung Gartenstraße
- Kreuzung Gartenstraße bis Ortsausgang
For regional traffic, this means that diversions via Rehna and Grevesmühlen to Mühlen Eichsen are necessary. Important to know: Residents can continue to access their properties during construction and garbage collection will be carried out without restrictions. Construction timetables apply to lines 130, 142, 143 and 163 on October 29th and 30th, 2025, although line 130 cannot serve the “Passow” stop on these days. The contract for the construction work in Gadebusch and the renovation at Veelböken was awarded to the Matthäi company from Leezen, and the investment amounts to around 200,000 euros. The completion of the work in Gadebusch is planned for mid-November 2025, as Nordkurier reports.
Other construction sites in the district
In addition to the work mentioned, renovation work is also planned on the district roads K 01 and K 02. These full closures will come into force between July 29th and September 5th, 2025. On the K 01, the asphalt surface and base layer will be renewed over around 4.6 kilometers, while on the K 02 a similar procedure will be carried out over around 3 kilometers. Both sections of the road will be completely closed to through traffic during this time. Diversions have been set up over the same route, although the diversion for the K 02 is shorter.
The diversions for the K 01 lead from Palingen to Selmsdorf and run over the state road L 02 towards Rehna, while the diversion for the K 02 leads from Wahrsow to Hof Lockwisch. These measures are intended not only to improve road quality, but also to increase traffic safety. In its infrastructure safety concept, the Federal Ministry of Transport attaches great importance to ensuring that safety is taken into account in all phases of road projects. This includes regular inspection of road traffic, which is supported by technical regulations, as can be read on the BMV website.
With this comprehensive renovation work, the district of Northwest Mecklenburg is pursuing the goal of increasing traffic safety and improving traffic flows in the long term. The current construction sites show that the region has a good handle on infrastructure, even if the associated restrictions can pose a challenge for citizens. All parties involved are required to transform the short-term inconveniences into long-term benefits for the transport infrastructure.
