Solstice campaign in Neubrandenburg: Bechterew's disease in focus!

On June 19, 2025 at 5 p.m., the culture park in Neubrandenburg will be the stage for a special campaign that will provide information about Bechterew's disease and the associated self-help offers. As part of the solstice celebrations, the organizers invite you to a colorful program that includes musical performances and Qigong exercises. The aim is to offer the many people affected a platform to exchange information about the chronic inflammatory rheumatic disease and receive support. The event is supported by a therapist and the Rheumatism League Qigong group. This group has made a name for itself in Neubrandenburg for over 20 years by supporting those affected by the Rheumatism League and the Fibromyalgia League. Visitors can use the opportunity to learn more about the support groups, which are a valuable point of contact for anyone living with ankylosing spondylitis. Around 450,000 people in Germany are affected by this disease, including around 1,200 in the Seenplatte district.

Bechterew's disease: A painful reality

Bechterew's disease, also known as axial spondyloarthritis, is a chronic autoimmune disease that is characterized primarily by intermittent back pain and limited mobility. The most common symptoms include inflammation of joints, tendon attachments and even in the eyes or intestinal area. Many sufferers complain of severe pain in the lumbar spine and morning stiffness, especially in the second half of the night and in the morning. These symptoms can have a significant impact on quality of life.

The self-help groups, including the German Bechterew's Disease Association (DVMB), offer valuable support for those affected and their relatives. The physical and psychological consequences of the disease are alleviated through exchange and joint activities. The DVMB has set itself the goal of leading as normal a life as possible and preventing movement restrictions, which is reflected in the annual action days.
