Inhabitant assembly on July 14th: Property tax and urban development in focus!
In a current message, the city council announced a residents' assembly on property tax, which will take place on Monday, July 14, at 6 p.m. in the large meeting room of the town hall in the castle. The event is aimed at all citizens and the districts of the city and offers the opportunity to discuss important topics. In particular, the property tax reform and the budget situation of the city are reported on the agenda, such as Nordkurier.
The city council had rejected higher lifting rates in advance, which could often have been relieved by the citizens. The mayor invites everyone interested to actively participate in the meeting. In addition to property tax, topics such as education, construction work, fire brigade, culture and tourism will also be discussed. Particularly noteworthy is the planned construction of a new fire station with a rescue station on the Ivenacker Tor and the extension to the school campus.
the property tax and its importance
The property tax that is raised on land, buildings as well as agricultural and forestry companies is of essential importance for the financing of important municipal tasks such as schools, kindergartens, swimming pools and infrastructure. Every year, over 15 billion euros flow to cities and municipalities, as can be seen in the article of the Federal Ministry of Finance. From 2025, the municipalities have the opportunity to determine increased lifting rates for undeveloped land, which was necessary due to the reform of the Federal Constitutional Court.
This reform was overdue in view of the objections and dissatisfaction with the old regulation. The cities and municipalities are granted to make the rate of property tax B differentiated, which could take into account the burden of different types of land. Regulations that are tailored to the special needs and conditions on site should strengthen the self-government of the municipalities, a concern that is also supported by the traffic lights in Rhineland-Palatinate, such as the [SPD parliamentary group Rhineland-Palatinate] (https://www.spdfraktion-rlp.de/presse/mitteilungen/ampel-fractions-werden-kommunen-zielgenaue- ankunstei---grund-
The failure to decide on the new rate by June 30 of a calendar year could prevent retrospective changes, which is why it is important to find an agreement up to this date. The draft law is expected to be treated in the plenary in December and is intended to define the possibility of a differentiated collection of the lifting rates for residential property, non -residential plots and undeveloped land.
Especially in rural regions, it is important to find suitable solutions in order to increase the attractiveness of the communities and at the same time ensure the financial foundations for public services. The residents' meeting on July 14th offers a valuable platform for exchange and dialogue between citizens and the city council.
