Würzburger discovers treasures: 150 postcards from Teterow surfaced!

There are stories that are more than just memories on paper. This is what happened in tranquil Würzburg, where Manfred Gruber, 67 years old, came across a real treasure while browsing at a flea market. The discovery of a USB stick with around 150 old postcards from Teterow not only aroused his interest in the city, which is around 700 kilometers away from him, but also promised an exciting journey into the past. Northern Courier reports on this interesting find, which encourages Gruber to visit the places he discovered on the postcards in 2026 during his vacation on the island of Rügen.

How did Teterow come into play? Gruber, a passionate collector of postcards from his hometown, was looking for new additions to his collection. During his last visit to the flea market, he not only bought some new cards, but also the USB stick with digital images of postcards that were created between 1910 and 1960. These show various views of the city, including historical aerial photos, the church, the town hall and the former war memorial.

A look back at Teterow through old postcards

Postcards are not just beautiful pieces, they also tell stories. The excitement surrounding Gruber's find proves the important role of postcards as contemporary witnesses. There are many different views from Teterow that have been collected over the years. A small selection of the postcards on the website Home collection can be found, shows the diverse views of the city:

Gruber is determined to open his eyes to the places he sees on the postcards. He plans to make the digitized images available to the Teterow Museum so that these valuable contemporary documents will continue to be accessible to everyone in the future. A nice thought that not only enriches his own collection, but also keeps Teterow's history alive. The anticipation of the upcoming visit and the exploration of the living history of this city is palpable.

So it remains to be seen what impression the local streets and buildings will make on Gruber. It's always fascinating to see how old postcards can build bridges between the past and the present. Teterow, with its historic charm, undoubtedly has the potential to leave a lasting impression.
