Drunk drivers cause police operations in Güstrow and Bützow!
In the last few days, two drunk drivers in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania caused a stir and, not least, a significant police operation. As [Bild](https://www.bild.de/regional/mecklenburg-vorpommern/buetzow- Alcoholfahrten-fuehren-zu-polizeiarbeit-68e614bcbaad99385c953fb5) reports, the incidents in Bützow and Güstrow were anything but glamorous.
A 55-year-old German man drove his van directly to the police station in Bützow, probably assuming he would be welcomed there with a request. But the police quickly realized that something was wrong - the smell of alcohol was unmistakable. A breath alcohol test showed a level of 1.23 per mille. Instead of attending the appointment, he received a blood sample at the hospital while his driver's license was immediately revoked.
Shocking values
In neighboring Güstrow, a 33-year-old man came forward to report an accident involving wildlife. But here too it quickly became clear that alcohol not only played a role in conversation, but also in the blood. His Mazda was parked on the sidewalk and his breath test showed a shocking 2.43 blood alcohol level. Consequence: the driver's license was also confiscated and the keys were handed over to the partner. However, this wasn't the end of the story. Later, police officers even saw the man on a bicycle on Eisenbahnstrasse, where another breath test was carried out. The result remained alarming: 2.02 per mille.
Both drivers now have to face the consequences of their actions. In Germany there are strict rules when it comes to drinking and driving. ADAC informs that for novice drivers and people under 21 years of age, 0.0 per mille is the absolute limit. If you have a blood alcohol level of 1.1 or more, you are considered absolutely unfit to drive, which will result in criminal penalties.
Fines and penalties
The financial consequences cannot be ignored. Driving license suspensions and high fines are commonplace for such violations. The Bußgeldkatalog makes the consequences clear:
- 0,5 bis 1,09 Promille: 500 Euro Bußgeld, 2 Punkte, 1 Monat Fahrverbot
- 1,1 Promille und mehr: Freiheits- oder Geldstrafe, je nach Schwere des Vergehens
- 0,0 Promille für Fahranfänger: 250 Euro Bußgeld, 1 Punkt
Given such regulations, it is clear that driving under the influence of alcohol is not only dangerous, but can also be hard on your wallet. Both men now not only face criminal prosecution, but must also face the personal and financial consequences of their decisions, which are clearly not only irresponsible but also legally questionable.
